Peter Sain Ley Berry was educated at Magdalene College School, Oxford, Peterhouse, Cambridge, and Birkbeck College, London. Formerly a Liberal Party member, he was a founder member of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), founded in 1981, and was active in the Welsh Council and the Vale of Glamorgan branch. He stood as the party's parliamentary candidate for the constituencies of Swansea West, 1983, Pontypridd, 1987, and Pembroke, 1992. In 1983-1988, the SDP formed an alliance with the Liberal Party. The parties merged in 1988, becoming the Liberal Democrats. Peter Sain Ley Berry was also involved with the Welsh Centre for International Affairs, and was the Secretary of the Lloyd George Society. He is now the editor of EuropaWorld, an information service on European and World affairs.
