Ffransis G. Payne (1900-1992) was a folk historian, who worked at the Folk Life Department at the National Museum of Wales from 1936, and became head of the Department of Material Culture at the Welsh Folk Museum at St Fagans, Cardiff, between 1962 and 1969. He was born at Kington, Herefordshire and was educated at the University College, Cardiff. Amongst his main publications are Yr Aradr Gymreig (1954), Welsh Peasant Costume (1964), Cwysau (1980) and two books on Radnorshire in the series Cyfres Crwydro Cymru (1966, 1968).
