Scope and content

Papers relating to roads in which Sir Watkin Williams Wynn had an interest, both as a private landowner and as an investor in the turnpike trusts. The contents are not concerned with the construction or physical maintenance of the roads, but rather with financial and legal aspects. The files relate to securities of the turnpike trusts in Montgomeryshire, Denbighshire, Shropshire and Merioneth, 1770-1885; the diversion of a road near Gartheryr, Banhadla, 1823; and the stoppage or closure of footpaths and roads in Ruabon, 1867-1910.
