History

The diocese of Bangor contains the two archdeaconries of Bangor and Meirionnydd. An archdeaconry is a defined administrative unit, and authority over an archdeaconry is delegated to an archdeacon by the bishop. The duties of an archdeacon include general disciplinary supervision of clergy and a more particular care over the temporal administration of ecclesiastical property within the archdeaconry, as well as the conducting of regular visitations of all parishes within the archdeaconry and the granting of minor faculties. Each archdeaconry is made up of a number of rural deaneries.
