Biographical history
Owen Jones (1833-1899), Calvinistic Methodist minister, writer and bibliophile, was born in Weirglodd Ddu, Llanuwchllyn. He ministered at Blaenau Ffestiniog, 1864-1872, and at Chatham Street, Liverpool, 1872-1892, before retiring to Llansantffraid ym Mechain. Although a prominent figure within the Calvinistic Methodist circle in north Wales, he is remembered primarily as a writer and bibliographer. He was an avid collector of books and an authority on hymnology.

A collection of manuscripts which includes a copy of Lewis Morris (ed. D. Silvan Evans): Celtic Remains ..., 1878; original poetry and translations; transcripts from various sources, including hymn tunes, anthems, etc., manuscripts, poetry and printed works; correspondence; genealogy; sermon notes; diaries, 1858-1862, 1864, 1871, 1875-1898, and those of Thomas Jones, Owen Jones's father, 1873-1885.
