Scope and content
Series of photographs mostly taken to illustrate information given to George Ewart Evans by those with whom he spoke when researching his books on oral/local history in East Anglia, some with brief notes on dorse in the hands of George Ewart Evans, his daughter Susan Gentleman and others. One item, captioned 'Norfolk gamekeeper c. 1870', is a photocopy of the original photograph. One framed photograph, captioned 'Charcoal burning', is inscribed to Matthew Evans, son of George Ewart Evans, and dated December 1984. Some photographs include instructions on dorse regarding reproduction for publication. Dates noted are those of original photographs, not date of photocopying.
See also under heading Published works by George Ewart Evans: Horse Power and Magic (Faber and Faber, 1979) for further research photographs.
