The Oriel Gallery was part of a new venture, which combined a bookshop and a gallery funded by the Welsh Arts Council. It was launched in 1975 and was housed in a renovated Victorian building at 53 Charles Street, Cardiff. In the late eighties they moved to new premises, the former Barclays bank site on the corner of Cardiff's Friary and Greyfriars Road.
