Administrative history
The National Museum of Wales was established by Royal Charter in 1907. It currently receives the majority of its funding through the Welsh Assembly Government as an Assembly Sponsored Public Body. The Council is the executive body of the National Museum of Wales. Dr Elwyn Davies, who donated the papers to NLW, was a member of the Council of the National Museum of Wales and chairman of the Welsh Folk Museum at St Fagan's.

Immediate source of acquisition or transfer
Donated by Dr. Elwyn Davies, Tenby, in 1982-1983, and transferred from the papers of the late Elwyn Davies donated by Mrs Nan Davies, 1986.

Scope and content
Minutes of the Council of the National Museum of Wales and of committees connected with the Museum, 1967-77, 1980-6, draft annual report, 1982-3, and papers relating to the Welsh Folk Museum for the period 1967-86, with a copy of a substantial draft discussion paper entitled 'Tape Recording and Welsh Folk Life' (April 1983).
