File GJ1/23 - Mortgages of the Gogerddan estates to Crown Life Assurance Company

Several mortgages, the largest being for £44,000, by Sir Pryse Pryse and other members of his family mainly to The Crown Life Assurance Company, of the Gogerddan estates, both fee simple and those comprised in the family settlements of 1846 and 1880, and of various financial assets, together with releases and reconveyances by the Company to the Pryse family trustees, 1879-1888. There is also a mortgage to Miss Katharine Stewart Forbes of Park Lane, Middlesex 1881. The mortgaged properties include Tyngelly, Nantyllin, Darren Vawr, Darren Vach Brynmawr, Blaencwmsymlog and numerous others (named) in Llanbadarn Fawr, Llanfihangel Genau’r-glyn, Llangynfelyn and Aberystwyth, 1879; Cwmere, Ty’n Llechwedd in Llanfihangel Genau’r-glyn, Cors Fochno lands, Camddwr Bach in Llanbadarn Fawr, and a house in Great Darkgate Street, Aberystwyth, 1880; Cefncoch, Blaencoro, Llechweddeinion, Henhafod, The Black Lion Inn, Glanfread, Brynllys, Ruel Issa and Ucha, Peithyll and numerous other properties in Ysgubor-y-coed, Machynlleth, Llangynfelyn, Ceulan a Maes-mawr, Cynnull Mawr, Henllys, Cyfoethybrenin, Trefeurig, Faenor and Parsel Canol, 1881; unspecified hereditaments in the parishes of Penbryn, Troed-y-aur, Betws Ifan, Llangrannog, Blaenporth and Llangynllo [Abernantbychan estate] 1882; Garreg and Dolen Eglwys in Ysgubor-y-coed and Machynlleth, and Bronygof in Faenor Uchaf, 1883. Some of the properties are shown in schedules and plans annexed to the mortgage deeds, 1879-1883. The financial assets transferred to the Company in 1880-1881 include a former mortgage debt of £900, life assurance policies, and two sums of £10.000 secured to Edward Lewis Pryse and John Pugh Vaughan Pryse by the settlement of 1846. Some of the mortgage deeds are endorsed with further transactions, 1881-1888.
