Topographical, historical, and genealogical material relating mainly to the counties of Anglesey, Caernarvon, Denbigh, Merioneth, Montgomery, and Shropshire, accumulated by Thomas Pennant and including letters or other contributions from Paul Panton, Hugh Davies (botanist), E. A manuscript written c. 1573 (see f. 1) containing Kyvrinach y Beirdd (ff. 2-14a); and Humphrey Llwyd's English version of Brut y Tywysogion (ff. 1-227). The manuscript also includes poetry of Iolo Goch (f. 1); a rental of lordships in Powys (f. 228); and a Powys genealogy (f. 228b). Folios 229-232 are fragmentary and repaired.

An early seventeenth century manuscript, fragile, written c. 1611-1621 and possibly earlier by Roger Williams, clerk, rector of the parish of St. Nicholas, co. Glamorgan [the scribe of parts of Llanstephan MS 41] and containing pedigrees, Welsh poetry, medical and veterinary recipes, etc. Roger Williams [TLLM, 41n, 213-4] was the son of Roger William of Prisk [in the parish of Llanddunwyd (Welsh St. Donats)] and he married Elinor Rees [daughter of Rhys Amheurug (Rees Merrick)]: his pedigree is on p. 27 of this manuscript (cf. Llanstephan MS 41, p. 173). A folio or folios are wanting at the beginning and someone has written the words 'The Isue [sic] of Gruffydd fawr [De Radyr]' opposite the first page (p. 4). Notes, [c.1680], on the descent of the whole Herbert family, including the Herberts of Pembroke, Coldbroke, Powis Castle and Cherbury.

Pedigree, dated 1687, of Richard Herbert of Dolforgan, Kerry, Montgomeryshire, containing nineteen coats of arms, all painted, tracing Herbert's lineage, in the male line only, through fifteen generations, [?spuriously] from King Henry I and his son Herbert [?recte Henry] fitz Roy.
Husbands and wives are recorded in roundels beneath their impaled coats of arms; additional coats have been included to represent Herbert's wife's parents and maternal grandparents, and his daughter. Three generations have been added to the pedigree in a different hand (without heraldry), while further additions have been roughly sketched in pencil, [18 cent., last ¼]. Eight roundels have been left empty. The compilers of the pedigree are not named, however the Rev. John Jenkins (Ifor Ceri) ascribes it to Morris Evans of Llanfyllin, antiquary, and 'John Richardson, Herald Painter' (see NLW MS 1655B, f. 8; the repetition of this attribution alongside other pedigrees in the same volume (f. 13 verso) may cast doubt on its accuracy however). A dedication at the foot of the pedigree lists the authorities consulted (in NLW MS 1655B, f. 9 verso, Ifor Ceri appends the same list to a different pedigree altogether).

Breese'. Owen Jones was for a short time a private tutor at BrynTanad (see The Dictionary of Welsh Biography). The spine is lettered 'Mannoethwy MSS'.
