Over half of this series of deeds concern lands held by members of the Vaughan family of Llwydiarth, including the manor of Talerddig, once a grange belonging to the abbey of Ystrad Marchell. It is clear from the assignment of lease, 1545, and the quitclaim of lands in Cyfeiliog [16 cent.], that at least two of the other properties featured in the deeds must have belonged to Ystrad Marchell prior to the dissolution. The earliest deed, a grant by Peter Corbet, lord of Caus, 1302, and one other, 1588, refer to lands around Forden and Worthen, which may have descended to the Vaughans from the Purcell family, with whom they intermarried in the first half of the seventeenth century.

Twelve deeds, 1302/3, 1537-1675/6, the majority of which relate to the manors or lordships of Mechain Is Coed and Uwch Coed, Caereinion, Mochnant, Mawddwy, Cyfeiliog, Talerddig and Arwystli. Two of the deeds, 1302 and 1588, appear to have originated from the manor of Caus. The Vaughan family is strongly represented and the series includes settlements of the Llwydiarth estate, 1538, and the manor of Talerddig, 1673-1675/6, involving John ap Howell Vychan and Edward Vaughan respectively. Among witnesses named in the deeds is Richard Herbert, seneschal of Powys, 1537-1538.
