Scope and content

Papers deriving from miscellaneous lawsuits in the Court of the Exchequer, the Court of the Council in the Marches of Wales and other courts, mainly relating to properties in Cardiganshire belonging to the Pryse family of Gogerddan and others, 1574-1682. They include a case brought by the Crown against the inhabitants of Aberystwyth concerning the title of Our Lady’s Mill, 1574-1582. Two files contain cases involving Sir Richard Pryse (d. 1623) and his grandson, Sir Richard Pryse (d. 1651). There is also a royal pardon granted to several persons found guilty of clipping coin, 1682; and a stray paper relating to property belonging to the Buscot Park estate of Edawrd Loveden in Berkshire, [post-1649].
