Administrative history
The Idris Lodge was the oldest lodge within the Gwalia District having been established in 1837; it was also one of the strongest with 277 members in 1918. By 1930, however, it was the largest lodge within the District even though membership had declined to 168. Two lodges, namely Mawddwy and Mawddach, amalgamated with the Idris in 1972. The Lodge was registered at the Blue Lion, Dolgellau, in 1861 but by 1873 it had moved to the United Clubroom, Lombard Street, Dolgellau. From 1882 it was registered at the recently built town hall now called Neuadd Idris.
