The lodge was established in 1883 with 52 members and was registered at Abergynolwyn school, Merioneth. Membership appears to have reached a peak in 1918 when 138 members were registered. Declining membership thereafter was rapid, from 86 in 1921 to only 9 in 1969. Bera Castle was amalgamated with the Dovey Lodge in 1972.
