Biographical history
This is the Llwydiarth estate as defined by the heading in the rentals for 1809-1860. In actual fact it included some properties which had once belonged to the Glascoed estate, lying in Garthbeibio, Llanfair Caereinion, Llangadfan and Llanwddyn. It is sometimes difficult to differentiate between the Llwydiarth and Glascoed properties. The Llwydiarth estate was acquired together with Llangedwyn and the Glan-llyn estate (Merioneth, q.v.) through the marriage of Watkin Williams Wynn to Anne, daughter of Edward Vaughan in 1715.
