History

Prof. Edward Arthur Lewis (1880-1942), historian, was born at Llangurig, Montgomeryshire, and educated at Oswestry, Llanidloes, University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, and the London School of Economics. He became assistant lecturer in Welsh History at UCW Aberystwyth in 1910, becoming Professor of Economics in 1912 and Professor of Welsh History in 1930. He married Elizabeth Thomas, vice-principal of Barry Training College, Glamorgan, in 1925, and they both died in 1942.
