Biographical history

British academic and Labour MP. Born Cardiff, the son of Hilary Marquand MP. Educated at Emanuel School, Battersea, Magdalen and St Antony's Colleges, Oxford, and University of California, Berkeley. Member of Parliament for Ashfield (1966-1977). Chief advisor to Roy Jenkins as President of the European Commission (1977-1978). Social Democratic Party national committee (1981-1988). Founder member of the centre-left pressure group Compass, 2003. (Wikipedia).
