Letters and other papers concerning the lease by Sir Watkin Williams Wynn to Thomas Jones of Llannerchrugog Hall of coal mines at Rhosllannerchrugog near Ruabon, Denbighshire. The earliest item is the opinion of John Madocks on the question of surface enroachments and enclosures of the commons, 1785. The file includes a draft of the lease, 1860, approved by Thomas Jones, 1861; letters to Longueville, Jones and Williams, 1859-1879, by Thomas Jones, his brother Henry Jones, and Edward Jones of Rhosymedre, discussing mainly the purchase and operation of the lease, the question of Sir Watkin’s legal title, the financial losses incurred by Thomas Jones, Sir Watkin’s manorial rights, a shooting lease over the wastes at Eglwyseg near Llangollen, difficulty over the lease granted to Henry Jones by Charles Wright, and resolving affairs of Henry Jones subsequent to his death in 1868; rough accounts, 1860-1861; a draft agreement between Thomas Jones and Sir Watkin Williams Wynn for shooting rights over the farms of Ty Canol, Ty Brith, Plas Ucha and Ty Ucha in the manor of Llanegwest, 1864; a map of Rhosllanerchrugog Colliery showing the area worked under the agreement with Thomas and Henry Jones, and a summary of the coal worked under Rhosllanerchrugog wastes, 1861.
