It includes conversations with Chrzanowski; Broglie; Tocqueville; Circourt; Ellice; Say; Dumon; Guizot; Lanjuinais; Thiers; Berryer; Daniele Manin (1804-57); Montalembert, et al. Conversations centre on the Crimean War and its effects, and on Montalembert's trial at which S. was present. There are also comments on Anglo-French relations; centralisation in France; the political situation in Italy and the Austrian Empire; USA and Cuba; andLouis Napoleon's character.
