Yr oedd Gwilym Richard Jones yn fardd a newyddiadurwr. Fe’i ganed yn Nhal-y-sarn, Sir Gaernarfon, ar 24 Mawrth 1903. Bu’n gweithio fel gohebydd ac yn yn 1945 fe’i penodwyd yn olygydd ar Y Faner gan aros yn y swydd nes iddo ymddeol yn 1977. Cyhoeddodd bum cyfrol o gerddi. Ef oedd y cyntaf i ennill y gadair, y goron a’r fedal ryddiaith yn yr Eisteddfod Genedlaethol. Bu farw ar 29 Gorffennaf 1993.
