History

Owen Jones of Pentyrch, Llanfair Caereinion, Montgomeryshire, was succeeded by his son and namesake Owen Jones (alive 1730-1781) who was noted as residing at Hollybush, later known as Y Gelli, in the parish of Llanfair Caereinion, Montgomeryshire. He married Mary Roberts, daughter of Humphrey Roberts of Dolwar. The Gelli estate came into the hands of their grand-daughter, Mary (1787-1858) who married the Rev. Owen Jones. Their youngest son, the Rev. Owen Jones (alive 1845-1890) married Mary Roberts, daughter of Richard Roberts of Ty'n-y-graig, Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant.

The Davies family were resident at Pentyrch in the parish of Llanfair Caereinion in 1690 when Robert Davies (d. 1716) was living there. The estate was subsequently owned by Robert Davies's grandson, John Davies the younger (alive 1739-1766), who married Anne, daughter of David Davies of Dyffrin Meifod. Their daughter, Anne, married firstly William Thomas and so the estate passed into the hands of the Thomas family, in whose possession it remained until it was purchased by Mary Jones of Gelli in 1831.
