History
The University Court, the 'supreme governing authority' of the University, meets annually. Its members comprise senior University officials, senior officials of the constituent colleges, members appointed by the colleges, by Welsh county councils, theological colleges, national institutions, etc. The Court, chaired by the Chancellor or Pro-Chancellor, currently has the power, amongst other things, to appoint senior University officials, the Secretary General (previously the Registrar together with some powers of the Secretary of Council), to receive and consider annual reports from Council and the Academic Board, to make statutes and approve of Ordinances, to approve affiliation to the University of other institutions, to appoint visitor(s) to inspect general facilities in the constituent colleges and to discuss all questions of educational policy that may affect the University. The Court is also the Court of the University of Wales College of Medicine. In carrying out its functions the Court, especially in its earliest days, had a number of Committees or Boards that were either answerable to the Court or had been established by the Court itself.
