Family letters

Correspondence, 1880-1945, between J. Lloyd Williams and close family members, especially his brothers Bob, Huw (Hugh), Owen, Richard/Dic (Richard Conway Williams) and William (who became an Inspector of Schools). The letters relate mainly to personal and family matters, but some discuss J. Lloyd Williams's memoirs, his proposed history of Welsh music and a few relate to folk songs and singing. One volume of copy letters, 1890-1891, mainly to his brothers and sister, are also included.

Letters, 1900-1945, from J. Lloyd Williams's sister, Elizabeth (Lizzie), to her brother. Many of the later letters relate to his memoirs. Copies of letters (5), 1938-1945, from J. Lloyd Williams to his sister are also included.

Lecture notes on various topics, many with Welsh versions, including 'Response of Protoplasm to External Stimuli', 'Mutual Aid in the Plant World', 'Social Characteristics of Plants', 'Light and Life', 'The Ecology of the Sea Shore', 'Gerddi Gwylt y Wyddfa', and 'Daeareg y Wyddfa'. The manuscript of a paper entitled 'Egwyddor Achos ac Effaith yn ei pherthynas รข Bywydeg', is also included, together with a related letter (undated).

'The Mystery of Life in Plants'

Lecture notes entitled 'The Mystery of Life in Plants', delivered at Bangor University, October 1905, and at Newtown, March 1915; together with Welsh versions of the lecture delivered at Conwy, November 1910, and at Aberystwyth, October 1918. A copy of Bangor Popular Lectures at the University College. Season 1905-1906 Book Ticket, which includes a synopsis of the lecture, is also enclosed.

Land survey

Notes and correspondence relating to a survey on land reclamation in North Wales, [1913x1916], to which J. Lloyd Williams contributed. Notes specifically relating to Caernarfonshire and Anglesey and North Wales grasses are also included.

Lists

Lists of names of plants compiled from various sources. Also included is a letter from A. H. Hyde, 1929, of the National Museum of Wales, emphasising the need for an authoritative list of Welsh names of plants and suggesting that J. Lloyd Williams could perhaps undertake the work.
