[ ], House of Commons. It has been suggested to the writer that a pressure group should be formed to influence the Government over the provision of more adequate television coverage and programmes for Wales. The Postmaster-General has pointed out the technical difficulties, but has postponed his decision. Meanwhile the 'Popular Television Association' has been revived, and is attempting to secure the third channel for commercial programmes. It is important that the Government be persuaded to admit the importance of the Welsh claim - for the sake of the language and culture of Wales. Proposes to convene a preliminary meeting at the House of Commons on 28 July, and would like Huw T. Edwards to attend 'to discuss this vital question in all its aspects'. Gives a list of the others whom he is inviting. Incomplete; second page missing.

[ ], House of Commons. It was truly kind of Huw T. Edwards to write. Experienced very mixed feelings in leaving such a pleasant ministry, and the work of reorganising the coal industry and preparing the steel bill were very close to his heart. Hopes that Huw T. Edwards is keeping well. The writer hears some news of Huw T. Edwards from Tom Jones of the Transport and General Workers' Union, a very dear friend. Welsh.

[ ], House of Commons, London SW1. Finds what Huw T. Edwards has to say very sad, but realises that he himself has no business to criticise. The writer is an old colleague of Huw T. Edwards's who has a tremendous regard for him. Thought that Huw T. Edwards's reference to the leadership and to the writer were very sad. But is grateful to him for writing.

[ ], Islwyn, Trelogan, Holywell. Warmest congratulations on It was my Privilege. The writer spent the period 1920-4 at Shotton, and came into close contact with the head and Arthur Deakin, especially the latter. Reading Huw T. Edwards's book, therefore, stirred many a memory. He was accompanied by Deakin the first time he spoke on a political platform in 1924, and can still depict him at the meetings Welsh Incomplete.

[ ], Killoughter, Ashford, co. Wicklow. Cannot thank Huw T. Edwards enough for the dedication to him at the beginning of his new volume of poems. Is encouraged to continue to serve the cause of Wales in the future. Regrets that he cannot speak or read Welsh, but Huw T. Edwards was right to emphasise that there must be no gulf between the Welsh speakers and the non-Welsh speakers within Wales. Would be pleased to meet Huw T. Edwards when he comes to Cardiff. Will always be happy to help Huw T. Edwards in attaining his aspirations. The tribute in the book is deeply appreciated.

[ ], Secretary of the Development Commission, 3 Dean's Yard, London SW1, to the Secretary of the Welsh Tourist and Holidays Board, 7 Park Place, Cardiff. The Welsh Council of Social Service has drawn the attention of the Commissioners to the efforts which are currently being made to stimulate the tourist industry in Wales, most notably the initiatives of the Welsh Tourist Board. It would seem to be desirable that the Rural Community Councils should become more involved in tourism work. Discusses the RCCs and their financial dependence upon the Development Fund. The Commissioners are supportive of the work of the RCCs in relation to tourism. But they would appreciate consultations with the Welsh Tourist Board on its view of the desired role of the RCCs in relation to tourism and on means of administering and financing this support. Would be grateful if the Board could discuss these matters. An informal meeting could certainly be arranged. Copy.

[ ], St Athens, to his brother,

Is very much surprised that the addressee does not give them the satisfaction of knowing how he is. However he supposes it was the addressee's laziness, not his ill-nature, that is the cause of it. On the dorse and above the letter are some stanzas written apparently at a later date but in an (?) older hand. EW has written 'Maeseglwys Psh Llangyvelach' and 'Dafydd or Nant' in the margin. Unfinished.

[ ], St Mary Church, to ----,

Almost two years ago the addressee was pleased to permit the writer to open a freestone quarry at Pyle. He began to do so then, but being called suddenly away to a gentleman for whom he often worked in Dorset he was obliged to desire of his brother to carry on the work for him. As soon as the writer turned his back several at Pyle took away the stone raised at his expense. A renewal of the addressee's permission availed nothing. Reports (untrue) that the men they employed had not been paid. It is true that he has not carried on the work at the quarry as expeditiously as he could have wished as he was long detained from home by a broken arm and long sickness, but coming home last winter he forwarded the work as much as he could at the quarry and got to pretty good freestone at last .. (Incomplete.) On the dorse are a few lines 'from DG', a fragment (II. 1-6) entitled 'Cdd yr adar', a list of 'Books at Wm Morris', and a draft of a letter 'To the Editor of the Cardiff Gazette'. The last item is of later date than the others.

[ ], Tanycoed, Talysarn, Penygroes, Caernarvonshire. Huw T. Edwards should forgive the typewritten letter. Hopes that Huw T. Edwards has settled back at home and shed his tiredness after his travels. The memories and the company were very enjoyable. Huw T. Edwards should call in when he is in the area. At last the film has been completed and has been shown. It was quite a task to fit it in an hour's length. It now constitutes quite a good programme, but is more in the nature of a lecture on Patagonia rather than a holiday film. Olwen is also sending Huw T. Edwards her pictures. Wishes Huw T. Edwards and his family a Happy New Year. The letter also includes a note from Olwen. Welsh.

[ ], The Times, The Times Publishing Company Limited, Printing House Square, London EC4. As Peter Evans of Cardiff will have informed Huw T. Edwards, The Times is to publish a special survey of Welsh Life and Industry as a Special Supplement on 31 January 1962. A number of social and political themes are to be discussed in the feature. Is writing to confirm the arrangement that Huw T. Edwards has agreed to write an article on tourism in Wales. This has been planned as an article of 750 words, and he is delighted that Huw T. Edwards is prepared to write it. Could the writer receive it by 15 January? Would prefer this contribution to bear the author's name, but it could appear as the work of 'A Special Correspondent'. Is prepared to pay a fee higher than the norm because of the short notice given to the author. Would be grateful to borrow any photographs which Huw T. Edwards might wish to use in illustrating the article, or any suggestions as to the sources of suitable pictures. Incomplete.

[ ], To Dr P. Alwyn Smith, Senior Administrative Medical Officer, Welsh Hospital Board, Temple of Peace and Health, Cathays ...,

[ ], To Dr P. Alwyn Smith, Senior Administrative Medical Officer, Welsh Hospital Board, Temple of Peace and Health, Cathays Park, Cardiff. Is concerned about the arrangements which were made for the meeting between Dr Phillips-Miles and the Clwyd and Deeside Medical Staff to discuss the new District General Hospital. Discusses the background and the build-up to the meeting. Is very concerned and annoyed by the course of events; discusses his grievances and the source of his annoyance. There is certainly a need to secure an improved working relationship with the Board so as to avoid unnecessary difficulties and misunderstandings in the future. Knows that the recipient has some very weighty problems to tackle at the moment, and regrets that he is adding to them what may appear to be a trivial matter. Hopes that the recipient can devote the time to deal with it. 'Confidential'.
