Letter from C. W. Williams Wynn from Llanidloes, to Viscount Clive [at Newtown]. Armishaw has been allowed to return, as he has not been able to establish the identity of the prisoners. The mayor and Mr Marsh are of the opinion that the services of his detachment are no longer needed in the county. The men as well have expressed a desire to return home.

The depot has arrived at Aberystwyth and is instructed to proceed to Llanidloes, halting for one night at 'Sputty Censign' [sic]. Encloses an effective state of his men [No.MB1/125].

Considers that with the arrival of the 12th Regt there is no further need of the Montgomeryshire and Shropshire Cavalry. Has heard of the Government's resignation, and is not surprised that they have left the 'vessel which they have so nearly wrecked'.

Sent an escort yesterday with three prisoners to Montgomery. People are too alarmed to give evidence against the offenders. The same difficulty has been experienced at Llanidloes. His reply to the deputy sheriff has been well received. Great care is being taken to ensure the custody of prisoners.
