Letters

One of eight volumes consisting of several hundred letters, chiefly of the first half of the nineteenth century, written mainly to John Jenkins and his wife, to Walter Davies and his daughter Jane, and to John Vaughan (Penmaen Dyfi) and other members of his family, by numerous correspondents, including: Thomas James (Llallawg), Arthur James Johnes, Thomas Johnes (Hafod), Edward Jones (Bardd y Brenin), Edwin Jones (Towyn), John Jones (Jac Glanygors), John Jones (Tegid), John Cain Jones (Sion Ceiriog), Morris Jones (Meurig Idris), Morris Charles Jones, Owen Wynne Jones (Glasynys), Peter Jones (Pedr Fardd), Robert Jones (Rotherhithe), Rowland Jones (Greenwich), Theophilus Jones, Thomas Jones (Bardd Cloff), Thomas Jones (Thomas Gwynedd), T. Letters of Morris Williams ('Nicander'),

A volume containing about ninety letters, 1840-63, from the Reverend Morris Williams ('Nicander'), writing from Bangor, Amlwch and Llanrhyddlad, to Ebenezer Thomas ('Eben Fardd'), with a draft copy of one letter, 1850, from 'Eben Fardd' to 'Nicander'. A few of the letters have been printed in Adgof Uwch Ahghof. Also in the volume are a letter, 1865, from 'Nicander' to an unnamed correspondent and two letters, 1868, one incomplete, from 'Nicander' to [Richard Roberts] 'Bardd Treflys'. At the end of the volume are three letters, 1862, from Eunice Jones (Liverpool), daughter of Peter Jones ('Pedr Fardd'), writing from Clifton and Llanrhyddlad Rectory, to 'Eben Fardd' (enquiring about the connection between her father's family on his mother's side and the Wynnes of Glyn Llifon; 'englynion' by 'Pedr Fardd'). Pasted into the volume near the beginning is a cutting containing a letter, 1849, from M. Williams, ['Nicander'], Amlwch to John James ('Ioan Meirion'); there is also a loose cutting of a photograph of 'Nicander'.

A volume made up of about two hundred and ten items of correspondence, 1809-1810 and 1823-1825, nearly all addressed to William Owen Pughe. Some of the letters had been cut out before pagination. Where the date is not given in the ensuing description the letters belong to the period 1823-1825.
