Letter book of William Williams, Carne

A volume, [early 19 cent.]-1851, used as a letter book by William Williams of Carne [Carnecoch], Llanwnda, Pembrokeshire. The volume contains copies of letters, September 1834-March 1842 (pp. 325-447), March 1842-June 1843 (pp. 457-473) and June 1843-April 1851 (pp. 45-264), mainly concerning the rents, tenancies, repairs and management of the estates of D. Davies and the Rev. Edward Jones in the parishes of Little Newcastle, Dinas and St Davids, Pembrokeshire, and the estate of Mrs Amy Skeel and Mrs. Williams (mother of William Williams) in Kibworth Harcourt, Leicestershire.
Also in the hand of William Williams are farm accounts [?for Carnecoch], October 1832-August 1833 (pp. 40-43). The volume also contains, in a different hand, [early 19 cent.], miscellaneous extracts, notes and memoranda, including medical, veterinary and domestic recipes (pp. 2-38, 448-455, 475-479), extracts from John [sic] Claude's observations on the composition of sermons (see Jean Claude, An Essay on the Composition of a Sermon, translated from the original French by Robert Robinson, 2 vols (Cambridge, 1778-1779, ESTC T138627)) (pp. 267-307), and 'Concerning the time when Christianity was first preached in Great Britain, and by whom' (pp. 309-323).

Manuscripts, 1813-1875, from the library of John and Henry Harries of Cwrt-y-cadno, astrologers, cunning men and conjurors. The collection includes records of patient prescriptions and payment, draft horoscopes compiled in response to patient requests, a printed astrological almanac with manuscript entries, patient correspondence, notes and transcripts of medical lectures, and medical treatises; together with general account books, miscellaneous papers, etc.

Ymddengys fel pe bai'r awdur wedi nodi darganfyddiadau meddygol a wnaed ganddo ef ei hun ar ff. 66 verso-7. = A notebook, [mid-19 cent.], containing remedies and medical recipes, together with notes and extracts mainly on medical topics, general health and science. It appears that the author has noted his own medical discoveries on ff. 66 verso-7.

Cyfrol yn cynnwys barddoniaeth gan John Jones, Ceunant ac eraill, ynghyd â ryseitiau meddyginiaethol a rhai ar gyfer y gegin a'r tŷ, yr oll mewn [?o leiaf dwy] law anhysbys = A volume of poetry by John Jones, Ceunant and others, together with culinary, domestic and medical recipes, all written in [?at least two] hands.
Nodir mai gan 'Gwilym Llugwy' (William Owen, Betws y Coed) mae un o'r englynion (f. 7). Ceir ôl adolygu a chywiro ar beth o'r cerddi, sy'n awgrymu efallai mai gwaith un o'r sgrifenwyr ydyw'r rhai neillduol hynny = One of the englynion is noted as being by 'Gwilym Llugwy' (William Owen, Betws y Coed) (f. 7). There are marks of editing and correction on some of the poems, which suggests that these particular ones may be in the autograph of one of the scribes.
