Antiquarian researches relating to Glamorgan,

Copies which belonged to John Montgomery Traherne, and which contain manuscript corrections by him, of Parts I and II of Antiquarian Researches, Genealogical, Chronological, and Heraldic of the Principal Families of Glamorgan. Glamorgan 'collectanea' of William Davies,

Glamorgan collectanea of William Davies, Cringell, near Neath, classical scholar and historian (see The Journal of the Welsh Bibliographical Society, Vol. II, July 1916). The material includes Queries proposed [by William Davies] to the nobility gentry and clergy of Glamorganshire, with a view to illustrate the history of that county; two draft proposals for publishing the history of Glamorganshire, the second of them printed at Swansea in 1803, together with a prospectus and request for subscribers dated 19 July 1810; two letters, 20 September 1823 and 25 October 1823, from David Davis, Unitarian minister, Neath (son of David Davis, Castell Hywel) to John Montgomery Traherne giving the writer's reason for buying the manuscripts of William Davies and informing Traherne that if Thomas Rees would not prepare the material for publication Thomas Price ('Carnhuanawc') would be asked to do so.

Glamorgan 'collectanea',

Biographical notes on Sir Robert Mansel and the Button family; notes on the bardic order, on Margam and on customs, notions, pastimes and diversions prevalent in Glamorgan; lists of manors, notes on abbeys and priories, and a list of bishops of Llandaff. The work is mainly that of William Davies, Cringell, but with additions by Richard Bevan and Edward Williams ('Iolo Morganwg').

Notebooks used by John Montgomery Traherne to record notes and 'collectanea' mainly relating to the history and topography of Glamorgan, Glamorgan families and pedigrees, and miscellanea. NLW MS 6534A contains notes relating to the Scudamore family.

A notebook purchased at the sale of the library of Theophilus Jones , historian of Brecknockshire, being a miscellany containing, among other things, 'Catalogus libror. meor. An[n]o 1643 ...', extracts from works on religion, a copy of 'The man[n]er of the winning of Glamorgan out of the Welsh mens hands by Sr Robert fitz Hamon and his followers ...', pedigrees mainly of Glamorgan families, 'An alphabet of some coates of armes in Wales and the borders of the same', details of some Glamorgan fee-farm rents, etc.

Material collected by John Montgomery Traherne in connection with the preparation of his monograph on Sir Matthew Cradock. It includes pedigrees and notes, a transcript and English translation by Taliesin Williams ('Ab Iolo') of 'Dyma Ganu a wnaeth Rhys Brydydd i Syr Mathias Caradog am y Cwrdd Prydyddion a wnaeth efe yn y Merthyr Mawr', sketches, coats of arms, a letter, 1840, to Traherne from George Grant Francis, etc.

The Stradling correspondence,

The author's copy, interleaved, with numerous manuscript and other additions, of Stradling Correspondence: A Series of Letters written in the Reign of Queen Elizabeth, with Notices of the Family of Stradling of St. Donat's Castle, Co. Glamorgan. Edited by the Rev. John Montgomery Traherne ... (London, 1840). Among the additions are notes and memoranda by John Montgomery Traherne, facsimiles of autographs, sketches of monuments and memorials, coats of arms, bookplates, autograph letters (including one from Agnes Strickland), etc., and a document, 1602, bearing the autographs of Thomas Mansell and W. Pryce.
