A volume of miscellaneous press cuttings from Welsh and Welsh-American newspapers and periodical publications compiled, with some holograph annotations, by John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd'). The titles include 'Gorsedd y Beirdd', 'Yr Eisteddfod Genedlaethol' (Cardiff, 1883), 'Diwygiad yr Eisteddfod', 'Yr Eisteddfod a'i Hanes' (Rhyl, 1892), 'Llith Aneurin Fardd', 'Eisteddfod Genhedlaethol Aberdar, 1861 - "Hanes Llenyddol Cymru". Beirniadaeth' (by T. Stephens, Merthyr Tydfil), 'Sion Philip, Mochras', 'The British Kymry .... By the Rev. R. W. Morgan, Pc, Tregynon' (review), 'Yn y Bala', 'Review Flynyddol Gwirfoddolwyr Morgannwg ar Gomin Hirwain', 'Taith tua Chaerlleon-ar-Wysg', 'Y Gohebydd Gwibiol' (notes on the history and antiquities of Llandybie, Bettws, Llanarthney, Gelli Aur, Llanfihangel Aberbythych, Llangathen, Abergwili and Carmarthen), 'Hen Arferion Crefyddol y Cymry', 'Brawddegau y Werin' (a list of Welsh dialect expressions), etc. Also mounted in the volume is a printed prospectus of Robert Griffith (Manchester), Telyn a Cherdd Dannau y Cymry [?1913]. Stephens, The British Kymry, etc. etc.'.

Eben Fardd: Memoranda and accounts,

A composite volume, lettered 'Eben Fardd's MS', comprising day and 'memoranda' books of Ebenezer Thomas ('Eben Fardd'). Among the material recorded by the writer are extracts relating to Tractarianism; diary entries, 1837-9, 1849; shop, school, bookbinding and other accounts, 1839-40; mensuration problems and tables, etc., c. 1834; 'Memorandum of Literary adventures and Transactions ... 1848-55, being largely a list of adjudications at eisteddfodau and literary meetings, and 'adjudicatory transactions conducted on the New Plan', 1855-6, and 'Requisitions & invitations declined', 1855-7; Llanarmon School, Clynnog School, and sundry accounts, 1827; etc.

Pocket notebooks,

Pocket notebooks kept between c. 1874 and c. 1901, many undated, containing adjudications by Gwilym Cowlyd on bardic competitions at various eisteddfodau, miscellaneous accounts, minutes of various committees, copies of poems and prose works, and a volume endorsed, 'Cymmrodoriaeth Barddas Glan Geirionydd. Gwilym Cowlyd's Book' and containing copious notes, poems and accounts for the years 1896 until 1901 on 'Arwest Geirionydd'.

Letters to Gwilym Cowlyd,

General letters, 1859-1907, to Gwilym Cowlyd interspersed with a few other papers. Many are on literary and poetic themes and some refer to the publication, sale and purchase of various monographs and journals. A number relate to the holding of national and local eisteddfodau, several inviting Gwilym Cowlyd to act as adjudicator. Some concern the publication of his adjudications. Some poets submit their work to Cowlyd for his opinions. Many also contain references to the affairs of Gorsedd Beirdd Ynys Prydain. Many of the letters from 1904 concern the offer made by Gwilym Cowlyd to hand his personal library of books and other materials to the Llanrwst Urban District Council. The correspondents include George Osborne Morgan MP (2), 1878-1885.

Most of the letters concern literary matters, the sale and purchase of books and journals, publishing, and the convention of various eisteddfodau. Often Gwilym Cowlyd is invited to attend and adjudicate at eisteddfodau. The correspondents include Sir John Ballinger, 1893, Thomas Gee (2), 1877-1889, and Alfred Neobard Palmer, 1882.

Eisteddod notices,

Notices, 1819-1853, mainly declaring that local eisteddfodau are to be held. Most of the notices are issued by the Cymmrodorion Society in Powys, 1819-1824. There are also two copies of a notice concerning the Royal Denbigh Eisteddfod in 1828 and one issued by the Abergavenny Cymreigyddion in 1853.

A collection of over 200 books and pamphlets from the library of the donor's husband, the late Rev J. Seymour Rees, Seven Sisters, most of these being typescript volumes (NLW MSS 18628-707). The collection consists of some original work by J. Seymour Rees and his father, John Rees, such as poetry, short stories, essays, biographies, and guide books, much of which was submitted for competition at various national and local eisteddfodau, and volumes of collected material on various topics, including essays, articles and other material on such eminent Welshmen as W. Llewelyn Williams, Daniel Silvan Evans, Sir John Morris Jones, and Rev William Edwards, Groeswen, and on Welsh hymnology, and collections of poetry by D. Emrys James ('Dewi Emrys'), I. D. Hooson, R. Williams Parry, and T. J. Thomas ('Sarnicol'), of prose by 'Sarnicol', W. Llewelyn Williams, O. M. Edwards, and W. J. Gruffydd, and of hymns by H. Elvet Lewis ('Elfed'), J. D. Vernon Lewis, J. R. Davies, Pentyrch, and others, and selections of prose and verse compiled for competition at various national eisteddfodau. In addition to the collection of Elfed's Welsh and English hymns, there are twelve volumes containing some of his prose and verse and material on his life and work. There are also indexes to Y Beirniad, Y Geninen, and Y Geiriadur Bywgraphyddol; typescript copies and cuttings, from periodicals and newspapers, of articles and essays by various persons, and by 'Sarnicol' and J. Seymour Rees in particular; typescript transcripts of several printed books, in particular of collections of hymns published in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries; and scrapbooks of newspaper cuttings relating to D. Lloyd George, Dylan Thomas, 'Dewi Emrys', W. Llewelyn Williams, Sir John Morris Jones, 'Elfed', Rev John Evans, Brecon, Rev Jubilee Young, and others. The collection also contains letters to J. Seymour Rees and Mrs. Seymour Rees and a small group of other correspondence. The largest donation of printed books received during the current year was that which the Library was invited to select from the very extensive library of Rev J. Seymour Rees (Dept of Printed Books). It numbered several hundreds of volumes primarily of literary, historical, and theological interest, all in very good condition, and many having been bound by Mr. Rees himself. Additional material from the library of the donor's husband, the late Rev J. Seymour Rees, Seven Sisters. It includes typescript collections of 'Cyfansoddiadau sydd yn fy modloni i' and 'A short anthology of the world's greatest Christian prayers' (NLW MS 19384B); three scrapbooks of typescripts and newspaper cuttings (NLW MSS 19385A, 19386B, 19387C); a typescript copy of 'Casgliad o gyfarwyddiadau i wneuthur hen fwydydd nodweddiadol Gymraeg' by Miss Mati Thomas ('Mati'r Ddôl'), Nanternis, New Quay (awarded the prize at the Treorchy National Eisteddfod, 1928) (NLW MS 19383B); Evan Thomas: Galareb S. Griffiths o Horeb (Castellnewydd-Emlyn, 1960), and J. Lloyd Williams: Byd Natur (Caerdydd, 1924) (Dept of Printed Books). A holograph letter of David Jones (1856-1937), Aberdare, afterwards Independent minister at New Quay, co. Cardigan, and at Scranton, Pa., U.S.A. (NLW MS 18866E, No 246C); and a printed postcard to the donor from the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, [March 1965], acknowledging a message of sympathy and good wishes (NLW MS 16726A).

Wade-Evans (1875-1964), Welsh historian, and his daughter Mary Phillips to Mali Evans together with printed articles presented by Arthur W. Wade-Evans to Mali Evans. Four additional items from the printers Lowe & Brydone pertaining to 'Môr o gân yw Cymru i gyd', including receipts and a letter, dated 1928 and 1938, from among the papers of John Evans, were received in March 2019.
