The diary of William Herbert, 1886-87,

Typescript transcript by Robert Humphries of the diary of William Herbert, a Welsh emigrant to Ohio, which he kept while on a visit to the Rhondda Valleys and the Vale of Glamorgan in Wales, 1886-8. The original Welsh transcription is side by side with the English translation by Robert Humphries. William Herbert was born in Colwinston, Glamorgan, and began working as a coal miner as a young boy. The foreword and genealogical notes are by Catherine Reuther, Spring Green, Wisconsin, great-great granddaughter of the diarist, 2014.

Four genealogical studies of Welsh families who emigrated from Cardiganshire to Jackson County, Ohio, compiled by the donor. They comprise David J. Thomas and his wife Jessdinah (1988); the Roderick family of Tyn-y-mynydd, Blaenpennal (2007); the Williams family of Bronyfynwent, Lledrod (2007); the Williams family of Henbant, Lledrod (2007); together with a copy of Reverend William R. Evans, History of Welsh settlements in Jackson and Gallia counties of Ohio (1988).

A copy of the donor's research on the family of Rowland Rowlands. He married Elizabeth Samuel in the parish of Llanfihangel Ystrad, Ceredigion, in 1830, and later emigrated to Ohio in the USA. Also included are printouts from America Online, 2006, with a biographical note on J. W. Rowlands, 'one of Lima’s leading citizens'.
