Transcripts and notes of Mari Ellis relating to Walter Davies (Gwallter Mechain), comprising transcripts of his correspondence, mainly from NLW MSS 1804-5E, 1808-9E, [1980s], [?2004] (ME 7/1-3); transcripts from his diaries, mainly NLW MS 1757B (ME 7/4); transcripts and notes concerning the provincial eisteddfodau of 1819-1834, [1990s] (ME 7/5); notes concerning Davies's connections with Penmaendyfi (ME 7/6); and translations into Welsh of letters of Walter Davies, Jane Davies and others mainly relating to their time at Llanrhaeadr[-ym-Mochnant, Montgomeryshire] (ME 7/7).

Gwallter Mechain (2)

Further typescript drafts of Mary Ellis's 'Walter Davies (Gwallter Mechain) 1761-1849', collated by the cataloguer and apparently preceding the drafts in ME 5/3. They consist of two almost complete drafts (ME 6/1-2), with a further copy of ff. 83-197 only, as well as disconnected fragments (22 ff.) from at least two different copies (ME 6/3). Each copy has at least some emendations in the hand of ME.

Manuscript and typescript drafts of Mary Ellis's unpublished book 'Walter Davies (Gwallter Mechain) 1761-1849', consisting of a manuscript draft of parts of the volume, [c. 2005], along with related notes and typescripts, [1980s]-[1990s] (ME 5/1); a manuscript draft, [c. 2005], of chapter 4, concerning the provincial eisteddfodau of 1819-1834 (ME 5/2); and two typescript copies, 2006, one emended, the other apparently finished, with some manuscript footnotes (ME 5/3).

Albwm llofnodion, &c.

An album of annotated autographs, photographs and engravings, printed matter, press cuttings, etc., compiled during the years 1858-1881. The volume is almost entirely devoted to persons who were prominent in the literary and musical life of Wales during this period, and it appears from internal evidence to have been well known to the compiler's friends and contemporaries. The autographs are largely in the form of personal entries, recorded mainly at national and other eisteddfodau, but there are also a number of mounted holograph letters, 'cut-out' signatures from holograph letters, and franks. Merionethshire and Caernarvonshire records (facsimile)

A facsimile manuscript in two parts mostly in the hand of William Watkin Edward Wynne. The first part comprises copies (some printed) of charters, public records, deeds, pedigrees, poetry, etc. of Merionethshire and Caernarvonshire interest, some of which are taken from transcripts made by Robert Vaughan, Hengwrt. The material includes records and pedigrees relating to the Wynn family of Peniarth; notes on the Maurice and Owen families of Clenennau, Penmorfa, Caernarvonshire, with related deeds possibly in the hand of William Maurice of Llansilin; deeds relating to the Porkington estate; an extent of the commote of Eifionydd, 1352; an extract from the Coroner's Rolls for Merionethshire, 1345; charters of Castell y Bere and Harlech Castle; pedigrees of Madog ap Dafydd of Hendwr, Llandrillo, Merionethshire; an ode to Einion ap Gruffydd of Corsygedol by Gruffudd Gryg; odes to Dafydd ab Ieuan ab Einion by Guto'r Glyn and Dafydd Nanmor; letters addressed to W. W. E. Wynne, the correspondents including Walter Davies ('Gwallter Mechain'); etc. The second part is also mostly in the hand of W. W. E. A copy of William Wotton: Cyfreithjeu Hywel Dda ac eraill, seu Leges Wallicae ..., London, 1730. Manuscript annotations have been added to the text by Walter Davies ('Gwallter Mechain') [see under 'Tarddiad']. Within the volume is the title page of Llyft Gweddi Gyffredin, 1710, with genealogical memoranda of a Roberts family, 1736-1795.

'Ysgrepan Nathan Dyfed'

Two volumes entitled 'Hen Gofion. Yr Ysgrepan neu Wyau Nythau Nathan', being a collection of autobiographical and other material compiled by Nathan Dyfed. The volumes include, in addition to the autobiographical material, notes and reminiscences relating to Glamorgan, its people and customs, a vocabulary of the Dyfed dialect, notes on 'eisteddfodau' mainly in Glamorgan, 1831-1888, an account of friendly societies in the Merthyr Tydfil district, poetry by Nathan Dyfed and others, a copy of Gwallteriana: sef y traethawd buddugol gan ...
