'The lion and the owl'

The file contains a typescript draft, 1951, of 'The lion and the owl', a translation by Glyn Jones of 'Blodeuwedd' by Saunders Lewis. Also included is a programme, tickets and press cuttings of reviews of the play presented at the Everyman Theatre, Cardiff, 1955.

The file comprises papers, [1972], [1979]-1980, [1985], and 1987-1989, relating to The Collected Poems of A. G. Prys-Jones, ed. by Don Dale-Jones (Llandysul, 1988), which includes a foreword by Glyn Jones. The file mainly consists of correspondence between Don Dale-Jones and Glyn Jones, 1987-1989, mostly regarding the anthology; with a typescript draft of the foreword, 1980; and typescript copies of the contents and introduction to the work, entitled 'Selected poems', by Don Dale-Jones, 1985 and 1987. Also included is a draft letter from Glyn Jones to Roland Mathias.

Y llwybrau gynt

The file includes manuscript and typescript drafts, 1970-[?1971], of reminiscences by Glyn Jones which were broadcast as part of the series 'Y llwybrau gynt' on Radio Cymru during the winter of 1970-1971. The talks were published under the same title by Gwasg Gomer, Llandysul, in 1971.

Contemporary poets

The file comprises papers, mostly correspondence, 1968-1969 and 1972-1973, relating to Contemporary poets of the English language (London, 1970 and 1975). Glyn Jones was an editorial consultant to the work, and recommended Anglo-Welsh poets for inclusion in the volume, as well as contributing articles on Leslie Norris and R. S. Thomas, drafts of which are included in this file. Among the correspondents are Rosalie Murphy, editor of the first edition (13), Aneirin Talfan Davies, R. George Thomas, Meic Stephens, Gerald Morgan (2), and James Vinson, editor of the second edition (4).

Welsh voices

The file comprises papers, 1966-1967, relating to Welsh voices. An anthology of new poetry from Wales, ed. Bryn Griffiths (London, 1967), mostly correspondence between Glyn Jones and Bryn Griffiths which includes lists of poems for the anthology (one letter also contains observations regarding the Aberfan disaster). Glyn Jones appears to have acted as consultant on behalf of the Welsh Arts Council during the compilation of the anthology.

A new romantic anthology

The file comprises papers relating to A new romantic anthology, ed. S. Schimanski & H. Treece (London, 1949), in which the chapter 'Welsh poetry' was selected and introduced by Glyn Jones. Included are manuscript drafts of his introduction, 'Romanticism and Welsh Poetry', and transcripts by Glyn Jones of selected pieces by various authors. The file also contains a draft letter by Glyn Jones to Dylan Thomas, letters, 1945-1946, from publishers and literary agents, and a letter to Lynette Roberts.

Contributions to other publications

The series comprises papers, 1945-1993 (with gaps), mostly manuscript and typescript drafts of, and correspondence and notes relating to, articles by Glyn Jones published in various works compiled by other authors, and/or papers relating to publications for which he acted as consultant for their preparation. A number of drafts and letters are written on other drafts of Glyn Jones's works and papers pertaining to Yr Academi Gymreig and the Welsh Arts Council.

Gregynog poetry anthology

The file comprises papers which relate to an anthology of Anglo-Welsh poetry which Gwasg Gregynog intended to publish. Glyn Jones was invited to select poems for the volume and write an introductory note. The papers consist of lists and photocopies of selected poems, and correspondence, 1979-1983, mostly between Glyn Tegai Hughes of the Press and Glyn Jones. In addition to the anthology, the two volumes of translations of hen benillion by Glyn Jones published by Gwasg Gregynog, When the rose-bush brings forth apples (1980) and Honeydew on the Wormwood (1984), are also discussed. Some notes and draft letters are written on papers pertaining to Yr Academi Gymreig.

The file comprises papers, [1975]-1976, relating to Poems '76, ed. Glyn Jones (Llandysul, 1976). The poems included in the anthology appeared between 1974 and 1976, though it seems they were composed, and some published, before this period. Goodbye, what were you?

The file mainly comprises photocopies and typescripts of works by Glyn Jones, [c. 1992], selected by him for 'Karl's climb and other perils', later published under the title Goodbye, what were you? (Llandysul, 1994), with typescript drafts of the foreword and bibliography, a photocopy of a review of the anthology [1994], and related letters, 1992 and 1994, and notes [1984x1994]. One notebook contains an interview between R? and G[lyn Jones], in the latter's hand, about his background and writings, [1985x1995].

The dragon has two tongues

The file comprises correspondence, 1964-1971, including draft letters by Glyn Jones, relating to The Dragon Has Two Tongues (London, 1968), mostly from the literary agents, Laurence Pollinger Ltd, and publishers, J. M. Dent & Sons Ltd, and includes letters from Brynmor Jones (4), Gerald Morgan, Gwyn Thomas, Maxwell Fraser, Gwyn Jones (2), Keidrych Rhys, D. In addition, the file contains a programme of the Theatr Clwyd Company production 'My People', 1980, based on Caradoc Evans's short stories, which includes an extract from The dragon has two tongues; and printed notes regarding the television series 'The dragon has two tongues', 1985.

The file consists of mainly manuscript and typescript drafts of poems by Glyn Jones, [1930x1995]. Among the papers are Polish translations of poems by him which appeared in the periodical Tygodnik kulturalny, 1983, and drafts of sections of the poem 'Seven Keys to Shaderdom', including a letter from Richard Poole, editor of Poetry Wales, 1992. Some of the poems are written on paper containing other drafts by Glyn Jones and material pertaining to Yr Academi Gymreig.

The file comprises manuscript and typescript drafts, and some printed copies, of poems included in The collected poems of Glyn Jones, compiled and edited by Meic Stephens (Cardiff, 1996).
