Gulliver's travels

The file comprises page proofs of pages 33, 36, 45 and 48 of the second volume of the Golden Cockerel Press edition of Gulliver's Travels (1925) with engravings by David Jones.

Ballad and fragments

The file comprises three manuscript items, not in David Jones's hand, comprising a fragment of Latin prose (possibly an extract from the vita of a saint), a ballad 'The Unquiret [sic] Grave' (see F. J. Child, The English and Scottish Popular Ballad, part III (Cambridge, Mass., 1885), pp. 234-8) and what appear to be notes for a lecture entitled 'David Jones, Himself at the Cave-Mouth (cf. William Blisset, 'David Jones : Himself at the Cave-Mouth', University of Toronto Quarterly, vol. XXXVI (1966-7), pp. 259-273).

The file comprises an incomplete typescript text (page 21 missing) of a lecture on Aubrey Beardsley by Kenneth Clark, 18 June 1965. According to an attached note by Harman Grisewood, David Jones greatly admired Beardsley.

'Liturgy'

The file comprises a typescript copy of a fairly lengthy essay entitled 'Liturgy' and consisting of a programme for 'restoring the celebration of the Mass as public worship'. The first page is headed 'Please return to E. G., High Wycombe, Bucks' but internal evidence suggests that Eric Gill is not the author.

Dante's Inferno

The file comprises typescript text of an English translation of Dante's Inferno, cantos XII-IV, presented to David Jones by the translator, Vernon Watkins.
