A manuscript copy, dated 1 January 1895, of 'Y Llong Losg', a Welsh translation by Lewis William Lewis (Llew Llwyfo) of the poem 'The Ship on Fire' by Henry Russell. It was written for, and given to, Miss Anne Mary Williams, Tyddyn Rhyddallt, Llanrug, as a New Year gift.

Five letters, 1937-1939, four typescript (ff. 60-63) and one manuscript (f. 64), from the poet W. H. Davies, Nailsworth, Gloucestershire, to his half-sister Alice, in Newport, Monmouthshire, concerning personal and family news.

Two autograph poems, [1951], by Idris Davies, entitled 'In Glasnevin Cemetery' (ff. 113-116) and 'Mists upon the sea' (f. 117), first published in Dock Leaves, 3.8 (Summer 1952), 28, and ibid. 2.6 (Michaelmas 1951), 36, respectively.

Transcripts of letters and memoranda, both typescript and handwritten, 1936-1937, in support of Saunders Lewis, dismissed from his post as senior lecturer in the Department of Welsh, University College of Swansea, following the Penyberth arson of September 1936.
They include a manuscript draft (ff. 121-123) and partial typescript copy (f. 125), [1937], of a letter sent on behalf of the College's teaching staff to the Executive Council [?of the Association of University Teachers], expressing support for Lewis; a typescript copy of the letter, 20 October 1936, from Principal C. A. Edwards to Lewis, informing him of the decision to suspend him from his duties pending the termination of legal proceedings (f. 120), with a manuscript copy of the same, [1937] (f. 119); a typescript copy of part of a letter, 15 February 1937, to accompany a petition by members of the academic staff calling for his reinstatement (f. 124); and a note by Stephen J. Williams summarising Lewis' literary and political work, published in May 1937 in Universities Review, 9 (1936-37), 169 (f. 126).

A letter, dated 20 July 1763, from S[amuel] Garbet, Worcester, son of the topographer Samuel Garbet, and formerly curate of Wem, Shropshire, to a female cousin in Wales.

A letter, 9 August 1989, from the poet Raymond Garlick to manuscript collector Colin Huggett (f. 44), enclosing photocopies and original drafts of four published poems.
These comprise photocopies of worksheets of 'Miss Puw' and 'Emma von M. von N.', [?1974] (ff. 45-46), emended typescripts of 'Auguries of Guilt', 1968-1987 (ff. 47-48), and the emended manuscript and typescript of 'The Truth about Troy', 1989 (ff. 49-51). The letter includes comments on the poems and a description of his working methods.

Eight typescript poems, [1970]-[1972], by R. S. Thomas, published in Poetry Wales, 6.1 (Summer 1970), 37-38, and ibid. 7.4 (Spring 1972), 9-14.
The poems are 'Vocation', [1970], 'Alma Mater', 'Dimensions', 'No', 'God's Story', 'The Hand', 'Ann Griffith' and 'Amen', [1972]. However, 'Saunders Lewis', also published in the Spring 1972 number, is not present.

Three letters, 1963, 1966, 1970 (ff. 157-159), from R. S. Thomas to the author and book collector Eric Quayle, thanking him for a donation for the village school at Eglwysfach, Cardiganshire (f. 157), and for several gifts of books.
Three photographs, [?1970s], of Eglwysfach Vicarage (f. 160), and church (ff. 161-162) are also included. There is a reference to Sir Rupert Hart-Davis on f. 158.

Postcard, 1939, containing a verse in Welsh, entitled 'In tempore belli', in the hand of T. Gwynn Jones, sent to his neighbours and close friends, Mr and Mrs William Williams, Aberystwyth.

An apparently unpublished poem, entitled 'Pwy?' and dated 17 June 1908, by John T. Jôb, being a leaf from the autograph book of Ellen Anne Roberts (later Mrs Emrys Lewis of Creunant, Glamorgan), then of Carneddi, Bethesda, where Jôb was minister of the local chapel and a close neighbour.

A letter, dated 3 May 1972, from John Roberts, National Eisteddfod organiser (f. 68), and a Plaid Cymru circular letter, 7 June 1972 (f. 69), both addressed to Kate Roberts, and with notes on the verso of each folio in her hand relating to the early history of Calvinistic Methodism in Caernarvonshire, in particular Clynnog and Rhostryfan.
The notes appear to be taken mainly from W. Hobley, Hanes Methodistiaeth Arfon: [Vol. 1] Dosbarth Clynnog (Caernarfon, 1910).

A postcard and an incomplete letter, 1957, from the novelist Naomi Gwladys Royde-Smith to her sister Maud Royde-Smith, containing mainly personal news.

A mock probate inventory, [late 18 cent.], of the goods of 'Morgan ap Raynard Maddock of Glamorgan' (ff. 36-37); and satirical verses in Welsh on the followers of Howel Harris (f. 37 verso).

A collection of miscellaneous letters and papers, [early 18 cent.]-1998, purchased or received by donation from various sources by the National Library of Wales during the period 1997-2004, and bound as one volume. A list of contents has been placed at the front of the volume (ff. i-viii).

They comprise a letter, [early 18 cent.], from Thomas Edwards of Monmouth to William Blathwayt, politician, at Whitehall, concerning the nomination of William Blethyn as sheriff of Monmouthshire (ff. 180-181), with a letter, 28 January 1955, from Myers & Co. (Booksellers), London, offering the letter for sale to H. J. Lloyd-Johnes (f. 182); a licence, 29 December 1761, sent to the Governors of Queen Anne's Bounty, granted by John Ewer, bishop of Llandaff, to John Williams, BA, to perform the office of curate at Penterry, Monmouthshire (ff. 183-184); and a quitclaim, 2 May 1711, by Robert Bayley of St Pierre, Monmouthshire, to Henry Scudamore of Treworgan, Herefordshire (f. 185), with a transcript, [mid 20 cent.] (f. 186).

An autograph letter, [?1907], from Max Beerbohm to a Mrs Mathias (possibly Ena Mathias, née Wertheimer), relating to the proposed sale to her of his second caricature sketch of the New English Art Club (1907).
He refers to his substitution of the painter W. G. de Glehn for Charles Conder in the revised painting, because of the latter's illness (f. 188).

A letter, 7 May 1910, in Welsh, from Anna Evans, of Bwlch-llan, Cardiganshire, a passenger on board the RMS Lusitania, docked at Liverpool, to her parents.
She describes her experiences on board ship and refers also to the death of Edward VII the previous day (f. 163 verso).

Five letters, 1878-1895, written in Welsh and English, from members of the Thomas family, emigrants to the United States of America, to relatives in Llanbrynmair, Montgomeryshire.
One letter was written by Elizabeth and David O. Thomas, Venadocia, Van Wert County, Ohio, 29 April 1878 (ff. 103-104); two letters each were written by Abraham Thomas of Williamsburg, Iowa, 1885, 1894 (ff. 105-108), and his daughter Lizzie [Elizabeth], January 1895 (ff. 109-112). The letters contain family news and include references to agriculture (ff. 105 verso-106 verso) and Christmas celebrations (f. 106 verso) in Iowa.

A letter, 5 September 1947, from Kate Roberts to Saunders Lewis (ff. 54-55), together with his reply, 9 September 1947 (f. 56, end lacking), concerning her forthcoming radio interview with him to discuss her writing technique.
The discussion was transmitted on the Welsh Home Service of the BBC on 15 October 1947 and a transcript was subsequently published in Crefft y Stori Fer, ed. by Saunders Lewis (Llandysul, 1949). The letters are published in Dafydd Ifans, 'Annwyl Kate, Annwyl Saunders - Atodiad', National Library of Wales Journal, 29 (1995-96), 341-345.

Two letters, 1969-1970, in Welsh, from Saunders Lewis to Geraint Eckley, concerning the latter's research on W. J. Gruffydd.
The letters contain comments on W. J. Gruffydd's literary and academic work (f. 155) and directions to Lewis' house in Penarth (f. 156).
