Bundle of deeds and documents relating to the lordships and castles of Pembroke, 1704-1848, and Cilgerran, 1631-1808. The Pembroke papers include presentments of a grand jury enquiring into transgressions at the castle, 1704; leases by Nicholas Lewis, 1661, Elizabeth Lewis, 1722, and Lewis Pryse, 1773; an account of the grant of Pembroke Castle by Andrew Brace, 1824; a list of rents for various parts of the castle; a specification and estimate for repairs to the adjoining house - the covering letter reports the discovery of two Elizabethan sixpences, 1843; and a request to Pryse Pryse from the Corporation and inhabitants of Pembroke to demolish the house, 1848. The Cilgerran papers include a bargain and sale by Sir William Russell to Nicholas Lewis, of the lordship of Cilgerran with the townships of Emlyn, Bridell, Dyffryn Breuan and Maenordeifi, and an assignment by John Edisbury, his co-trustee for David Parry, 1631; a legal complaint by William Wogan against John Lewis and other heirs of Nicholas Lewis, concerning the Cilgerran Forest and demesne, and Park Ellen Gethyn in Maenordeifi, 1686-1687; a letter to Lewis Pryse from the churchwarden of Cardigan, acknowledging trespass in digging stones under Cilgerran Castle, 1748; and a lease of the castle and lordship by Edward Loveden Loveden of Buscot Park, 1808. The file also contains include abstracts of title, 1722; receipts for revenues due to the Crown and Commonwealth, 1635-1659, 1744-1776, 1825; and depositions relating to a riot committed by Capt. Allen’s colliers at Washpool Lake near Tenby, 1779 ( a stray).
