A manuscript containing an account of a tour from London through parts of England and Wales, 1776.

Poetry, correspondence and other miscellaneous family papers, 1776-1880, [?1927], relating to the Mostyn and Lloyd-Mostyn family of Mostyn, Flintshire, and the Lloyds of Pengwern, Flintshire.
The papers include: (i) poetry, 1776-[1838x1843] (ff. 1-5), comprising verses to Sir Roger Mostyn, 5th bart, by Richard Williams of Fron, 1776 (f. 1), a song in honour of Sir Edward Pryce Lloyd, 2nd Bart (later 1st Baron Mostyn) by Mrs Piozzi, 1806 (f. 2), verses 'To the Lady Harriett Mostyn on the birth of her ninth child' by Angharad Llwyd, 1838 (f. 3), and 'Lines on Sir R[obert] W[ilia]mes Vaughan, Bart' by R. Owen, [1834x1843] (f. 5), all apparently unpublished; (ii) some sixteen letters, 1801-[1864] (ff. 6-23), including juvenile letters from Edward Mostyn Lloyd[-Mostyn] (later 2nd Baron Mostyn) to 'Granny' [possibly his great-aunt Frances Mostyn], 1803-1806 (ff. 7-11), an incomplete transcript of 'Savage Mostyn's Indian Letter', dated 10 July 1858 (ff. 17-18), and a letter, [?21 February 1864], from Essex Mostyn to her sister Bessy [Elizabeth Weekes], concerning the disastrous fire at Pengwern, home of their Uncle and Aunt, on 19 February (f. 19); (iii) genealogical and heraldic notes, 1810-1880, [?1927] (ff. 24-40), including an outline of the history of the Lloyds of Pengwern, 1810 (ff. 24-25), notes for a proposed coat of arms for the Mostyn family, [?1831] (ff. 30-33), and notes by F. de Witt, [1860s] (ff. 36-37); (iv) papers, 1823-1838, relating to the lease of a property in Lower Seymour Street, London (ff. 41-44); (v) various lists of visitors and guests at Mostyn, 1832-1877 and undated (ff. 45-57); and (vi) miscellaneous other items including an essay by F. Mostyn, 1781 (f. 58), extracts from the will of Sir Roger Mostyn, 5th bart, [mid 1830s] (ff. 60-61), and a memorandum of Elizabeth Mostyn's last wishes, [?1842] (f. 62).

A volume containing transcripts, 1778-1781, by Thomas Evans, Cydweli, of pastoral poems (bugeilgerddi) by Edward Richard, Ystradmeurig, dated 1764-1776, together with a few other eighteenth-century poems in Welsh and some medical and veterinary recipes.

A catalogue, 1781, compiled by the Rev. John Jones, Fellow of Jesus College, Oxford, of Welsh manuscripts in the library of Sir John Sebright (1725-1794), Beechwood, Hertfordshire, which formerly belonged to his grandfather, Sir Thomas Saunders Sebright, bart (1692-1736).

Nine letters, 1782-1784, from [the Rev.] E[dward] Owen of Warrington, schoolmaster and translator, to John Blackburne, Chester, mainly concerning points of difficulty in translating Classical Latin authors.
Owen comments on the works of Livy (ff. 1, 3 recto-verso, 5 recto-verso, 7 recto-verso), Horace (ff. 9-10, 12) and Catullus (ff. 12-13, 14-15). He also discusses a variety of subjects including Roman land measurement (f. 1 recto-verso), Roman coins (ff. 1 verso, 3 verso-4), Roman numerals (f. 16) and the arrangement of rowers in Roman ships (ff. 16 verso-17). Although apparently living in Chester at this time, John Blackburne's family owned Orford Hall, near Warrington, and he was elected MP for Lancashire in 1784.

An account book kept by the grandfather of Dr D. Rhys Jones, Grangetown, Cardiff, to record wages and other payments made to his farm servants, etc.; a poem eulogising D. Rhys Jones written by Robert Parry (Robin Ddu Eryri) (1804-1892); etc.

Outlines of sermons, probably by John Jones (1761-1822), Penybryn, Edeyrn, Caernarvonshire.

A manuscript containing lectures on anatomy, surgery, 'physicke', etc., taken down by Charles George Ireland, together with a letter, 24 May 1798, from William Morgan, Actuary, Equitable Assurance Office, London.

A volume, [late 18 cent.]-[1840s], containing pedigrees, in several hands, mostly of Anglesey and Caernarvonshire families. The earlier portions, [late 18 cent.] (pp. 37-140), were copied mostly from Llyfr Melyn Tyfrydog (now NLW MS 23969F); later additions, [?1820s] (pp. 5, 151-283), are derived from the Taicroesion Manuscript (now NLW MS 19058E and Bangor MS 13564) or from intermediate copies.
A note by Jonathan Jones of Caernarfon in NLW MS 825D (inside front cover), dated 1855, describes the present volume as having been copied 'about 60 years ago from Llyfr Melyn Tyfrydog' by Robert Jones, for John Price (d. 1804) of Mona Lodge, Amlwch, with the pedigrees being continued by Price's son, John Price of Cadnant. The volume also includes descriptions of the Five Royal Tribes of Wales and the Fifteen Tribes of Gwynedd, partly in Welsh (pp. 137-150), and various antiquarian notes and statistics [in the hand of John Price of Cadnant] (pp. 290-355), including lists of Anglesey Sheriffs to 1843 (pp. 309-323), and transcripts relating to Amlwch parish church (pp. 341-347). Items loose within the volume, including a pedigree of the Bulkely family in the hand of John Price (watermark 1825), and a newspaper cutting, [1881], listing Caernarvonshire landowners, have been placed in an archival envelope. The contents of the manuscript are listed on pp. i-iv, 1-2.

The Sussex sections of 'Collectanea Caleyana' - a collection of historical, genealogical, legal and topographical material compiled by John Caley, Keeper of the Records in the Augmentation Office and the Chapter House, Westminster.

Two letters of Mrs Hester Lynch Piozzi (formerly Thrale), one to William Parsons, 1786, and the other to Robert Dalgliesh, 1815.

Seventeen letters, 1788-1791, 1803-1812, from the Rev. Thomas Burgess, bishop of St David's and later of Salisbury, to the Classical scholar, the Rev. Charles Burney, mainly concerned with the publication of Greek and Latin texts (ff. 1-29); together with six letters, 1816-1818, from Burgess to the Rev. Liscombe Clarke, later Archdeacon of Salisbury, relating to the compilation of diocesan returns for the see of St David's (ff. 30-41).
Two further letters, 1826, to an unnamed correspondent, concern versions of the New Testament and academic matters (ff. 42-45). There are references to a number of writers and Classical scholars including Daniel Albert Wyttenbach (ff. 1 recto-verso, 2 verso) and Thomas Twining (ff. 4-5, 9), and to the funeral of Thomas Warton (f. 6). Journal, July-October 1788, of Thomas Ellis Owen, then a student at Christ Church, Oxford, later rector of Llandyfrydog, Anglesey, describing a tour of Germany, from London to Weimar.
The journal includes descriptions of Hamburg (ff. 2-3), Hanover (ff. 4 verso-6), Wolfenbüttel (8 recto-verso), the silver mines at Goslar (ff. 9 verso-11 verso), Göttingen (ff. 13-14), Münden (ff. 14-15), Cassel (ff. 15-19), and Weimar and its environs (ff. 21-28). The volume includes an anecdote relating to Frederick II, Landgrave of Hesse-Kassel (ff. 18-19), and an account of a conversation with Goethe. (ff. 27 verso-28 verso).

A copy, made about 1788 by Cadwalader Pugh, of the poetical works of Rhys Jones o'r Blaenau. Though it does not appear to have been made from the author's holograph collection (Mostyn MS. 163), it contains most of the items included therein.The latter portion of the book was used between 1836 and 1849 as a commonplace book and contains material taken from newspapers, including The Christian Advocate, The Weekly Dispatch, The Shropshire Conservative, The Sunday Times, and particularly The Carnarvon and Denbigh Herald. The longer poems include 'Ffarwel Caerludd' by R. D., 'Cerdd y Myglys' (anonymous), 'Hiraeth am Feirion' by Owen Thomas ('Twrog'), 'Carol Plygain' by O. Williams, 'Pennillion Serch' by John Jones ('Talhaiarn'), 'Can y Crys' by Edward Roberts ('Iorwerth Glan Aled'), and 'Meirion i mi' by William Roberts ('Gwilym Aran').

A volume compiled, [c. 1790], by the Rev. Thomas Edwards of Mount Sion, Selattyn, Shropshire, rector of Llanfechain, Montgomeryshire, containing lists of incumbents for each parish in the Diocese of St Asaph, arranged mostly alphabetically by parish (pp. 1-4, 7-260), together with lists of the bishops, deans, archdeacons, prebendaries and chancellors of the diocese (pp. 261-289). The volume contains later additions by Edwards and, to about 1853, in the hand of the Rev. Richard Bonnor Maurice Bonnor.
The lists are written on rectos, often with notes inserted on the versos opposite. The volume also includes an index of parishes (pp. 540-543), notes on 'Antient Usages & Customs in North Wales' (pp. 293-295) and ecclesiastical wakes (pp. 299-302) and a poem (p. 297).

Drafts of letters, 1790-1797, from George, the first Marquess Townshend, to Lord Herbert (afterwards eleventh earl of Pembroke) mainly relating to the Queen's Dragoon Guards.

A journal of a tour of parts of England and North and West Wales, July-August 1791, containing descriptions of towns, castles, inns and scenery and of incidents along the way.
The unnamed author, possibly a member of the Wilson family of Broomhead, Sheffield (based on contextual materials filed seperately), travelled with two companions, starting from Cambridge on 11 July 1791. The English itinerary included Oxford, Birmingham, Coalbrookdale and Shrewsbury (ff. 1-8, rectos only). In Wales they visited Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant, Llangollen, Bala, Conwy, Bangor, Caernarfon, Beddgelert, Dolgellau, Machynlleth, Aberystwyth, Devil's Bridge, Cardigan and Carmarthen (ff. 9-25, rectos only, 24 verso). The journal includes an eyewitness account of the Priestley Riots in Birmingham on 14 July (ff. 6-7), and of an altercation between [?Richard Tavistock] Price and three apothecaries in Bala, 21 July (f. 12). A recurring theme is their difficulty in hiring appropriate transport from various landlords (ff. 19, 20, 25). The volume includes three pencil sketches of scenery (ff. 26 verso, 27 verso, 28 verso) and rough accounts (f. 29 verso, inside back cover, front and back covers). The bill, [16] July 1791, for their stay at the Tontine Inn, opposite the Iron Bridge, Coalbrookdale, has been tipped in on f. 26.
