Typescript of 'The Phillipps Manuscript: a chapter in early Welsh migration to the West Indies and the United States'. Trans. from the original in NLW 92B, with introduction and notes, by Dr Clare Taylor.

Ten typescript articles and transcripts, 1973-1984, nearly all written or compiled by Dr Clare Taylor, Aberystwyth.
They comprise: (i) 'America 1851-1852', dated April 1973, a translation by Mari Ellis of the diary of Iorthryn Gwynedd (NLW MS 9521A), with an introduction by Clare Taylor; (ii) 'The Phillipps Manuscript: A Chapter in Early Welsh Migration to the West Indies and to the United States', 1973, a transcript of NLW MS 92B with an introduction by Clare Taylor (the introduction only was published, with the same title, in National Library of Wales Journal, 19.3 (Summer 1976), 243-248); (iii) 'A Description of Trinidad 1881-1882', 1973, a transcript of [?part of] NLW MS 17267D; (iv-vii) 'A Victorian Guide to Wales', 1973 and undated, four volumes containing transcripts from nineteenth-century trade directories of descriptions of individual parishes in Anglesey, Caernarvonshire, Denbighshire and Montgomeryshire; (viii) an article, 1979, entitled 'The Journal of an Absentee Proprietor: Nathaniel Phillips of Slebech', concerning NLW, Slebech Estate Records 4292-4302; (ix) 'Isaac Williams of Cardiganshire – the Christian poet – an introduction to his nature poetry', 1984, an article subsequently published in Transactions of the Honourable Society of Cymmrodorion (1986), 115-126; and (x) 'NLW MS 15505 Picton Papers and Letters', [n.d.], consisting of transcripts (and in some cases translations from the Welsh) of letters of Welsh-American interest in NLW MS 15505E, as well as NLW MS 14111D and elsewhere. Items i-iv and viii-ix are photocopied or cyclostyled, while v-vii and x are carbon copies.

A letter, 1 March 1972, from David Jones, artist and writer, to Alun R. Jones, Professor of English at UCNW, Bangor (f. 1), enclosing a typescript draft of sleeve notes, prepared by the latter, for a gramophone record entitled Poets of Wales: David Jones (Argo, 1972), with copious manuscript notes and corrections by David Jones (ff. 2-9).
David Jones' notes include comments on his poems 'A, a, a, Domine Deus' (ff. 1 verso, 5), 'The Sleeping Lord' (ff. 1 recto-verso) and 'The Tribune's Visitation' (ff. 6-7). Also included is a revised typescript draft of the sleeve notes (ff. 10-17).

Miscellaneous press cuttings, extracts from Hansard, memoranda and duplicate copies of correspondence relating to the legal status of the Welsh language, included among a group of papers on the same topic (now NLW MS 22551E).

Fourteen letters and cards, 1972-1984, from the poet R. S. Thomas to various correspondents, mainly in response to requests that he sign copies of his books.
The recipients include Colin Huggett, 1973-1980 (ff. 7-10), and Satish Kumar, 1984 (f. 11, photocopy).

Papers, 1970-1988, relating to the legal status of the Welsh language, accumulated by Tom Ellis while he was Labour MP for Wrexham, mainly comprising correspondence between himself and Raymond Garlick, 1971-1979, 1988 (ff. 1-171 verso). They relate mainly to court cases concerned with the language campaign in the 1970s and contain references to the operation of the Welsh Language Act 1967 and to the activities of Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg and other groups. Press cuttings and other related papers forming part of this group are NLW ex 1045.

Six letters, 1969-1972, from David Jones, artist and writer, to Colin Hughes concerning the attack made by the 38th (Welsh) Division on Mametz Wood, 1916, in which David Jones took part, and the re-creation by him of the attack in part 7 of his In Parenthesis (London, 1937). The recipient quotes from these letters in his short study entitled David Jones, The man who was on the field: 'In Parenthesis' as straight reporting (Manchester: The David Jones Society, 1979).

File comprising copies of songs which were sung by the Investiture Choir at Caernarfon Castle on 1 July 1969 at the Investiture of the Prince of Wales. The songs include ‘Praise the Lord’, words by Aneirin Talfan Davies and music by Arwel Hughes; ‘Eryri (Snowdonia)’, words by T. H. Parry-Williams and music by Alun Hoddinott, and ‘Rhapsody for a Prince’ by Mansel Thomas. Four envelopes, postmarked August 1967, three of which contain unofficial stamps marking the translation into Welsh of the New Testament in 1567, together with a letter, dated 8 September 1967, to the donor from the Head Postmaster at Porthmadog. The stamps, 'Y Testament Newydd 1567 1967', were designed by Tegwyn Jones, published by Y Lolfa and sold during the National Eisteddfod at Bala in 1967.

Literary papers of John Tripp, [1967]-[1975], comprising manuscript and typescript poetry (ff. 1-26, 28-116, 130-151, 166-171), short stories (ff. 117-118, 152-153) and scripts for radio plays (ff. 119-129, 154-165).
The poetry includes original manuscript and typescript working sheets (ff. 1-26), photocopies of published poems (ff. 166-171), fair typescript copies (typed by Fay Williams) and photocopies of original typescripts (typed by John Tripp) of poems, seventy-two mainly unpublished (ff. 28-100), and twenty-one published in The Meaning of Apricot Sponge: Selected writings of John Tripp, ed. by Tony Curtis (Cardigan, 2010) (ff. 130-151), and a series of twelve poems entitled 'Intervals of Heat', mainly unpublished (ff. 101-116). The short story 'Ferret and Weasel' (ff. 152-153) and the verse play for radio 'The Seed of Dismemberment' (ff. 154-165) were published in The Meaning of Apricot Sponge, while 'Confessions of an English Tutor' and 'Sketches from Provincial Love' (ff. 117-129) remain unpublished. Also included is a letter to Tripp from Meic Stephens, 9 September 1968 (f. 6 verso), and a draft letter from Tripp to John Stuart Williams, 2 April 1969 (f. 27). A list of the contents, compiled by the donor, [?2010], is also included (ff. i-v).

Some one hundred and seventy-five original poems by Ruth Bidgood, 1966-2011, mostly typescript, some are emended and a few are in manuscript (ff. 208, 212, 214, 216-217, 219).
The majority of the poems have appeared in various periodicals, as recorded by the author on the individual folios. A few only have subsequently been published in collections, including 'Cwm Pennant' (ff. 132-133) and 'Encounters with Angels' (ff. 195-201) in Symbols of Plenty (Norwich, 2006), 'Complaints' (ff. 66-71, 187-189) and 'Bringing Home the Bride' (ff. 169-170) in Hearing Voices (Blaenau Ffestiniog, 2008), and a revised version of 'Reading a Landscape' (ff. 177-181) in Time Being (Bridgend, 2009). 'The Zombie-makers' (f. 38) and 'Brianne 1970' (f. 42) were first published in Matthew Jarvis, Ruth Bidgood (Cardiff, 2012), pp. 133-134. There are multiple copies or drafts of some poems, including 'Complaints' (ff. 66-71, 187-189), 'Summerers' (ff. 129, 152), 'Apparition' (ff. 171, 208), 'Reading a Landscape' (ff. 177-181), 'Windblow' (ff. 182, 218-219), 'Elan in Autumn' (ff. 193, 213-217) and 'Looms' (ff. 194, 210). A list of contents (for ff. 1-194) in the hand of the author is ff. i-ii; the order has subsequently been revised by her. Since the author usually disposed of typescripts once the poems had been collected, this volume includes rare examples of her work.

Two notebooks containing drafts of poems by Elwyn Davies, 1966-1969 and 1969-1970. Many of the poems were published in his two volumes of poetry, Words Across the Water (Swansea, 1970), and A Lifting of Eyes (Llandybie, 1974).

Copies of Robert Graves, Goodbye to All That (London, 1966) and The Rubaiyyat of Omar Khayaam, trans. by Robert Graves and Omar Ali-Shah (London, 1967), both with manuscript inscriptions by Graves, dedicating them to Owen Roberts who saved Graves's life at High Wood, 20 July 1916, during the Somme offensive, when both were officers with the Royal Welch Fusiliers.

A file labelled, 'Diwylliant Cymru Heddiw. Celfyddyd. Wrexham. 23.11.66. Round Table/C'von. The Artist in Wales. Welsh Studies Group', containing manuscript notes of two lectures entitled 'The Artist in Wales' and 'The Fine Arts in Wales'. A list, originally inserted within the folder and later transferred to the accessions correspondence files, contains the following description of the papers: '4. Two manuscript lectures:- (a) 'Art and Meaning', (b) 'Diwylliant Cymru Heddiw'. These items were originally donated to NLW in September 1973, together with a collection of pen and ink drawings used to illustrate several books, a design for a dust jacket for the book Absalom fy Mab, pencil drawings of a bardic chair and designs for the Red Dragon of Wales (PB7959-62).

Eleven letters, [1966]-1973, from the poet and novelist Robert Graves, to Owen M. Roberts, Bickley, Kent, his comrade in the Royal Welch Fusiliers, whom Graves credited with saving his life at High Wood in July 1916, during the Somme offensive (ff. 1-3, 5-12).
Also included is a carbon copy typescript letter from Roberts to Graves, 1 January 1968 (f. 4). The letters contain references to the battle at High Wood (ff. 1, 10), the Royal Welch Fusiliers (ff. 6, 8, 11), Siegfried Sassoon (ff. 1 verso, 2, 12 verso) and Harold Macmillan (f. 10 verso). Graves mentions Roberts in his autobiography, Goodbye to All That (London, 1929); Roberts's copy of the 1966 revised edition (see NLW ex 2334) contains an autograph dedication from Graves and a marginal gloss on p. 198.

Correspondence and other papers, 1965, concerning the production of a limited edition of The Fatigue by David Jones to mark the author's seventieth birthday, together with galley and page proofs, heavily corrected by the author, and a few related papers, 1975. The correspondence includes ten letters from David Jones to the printers, Will and Sebastian Carter, Rampant Lions Press, Cambridge (NLW MS 21925E, ff. 25-7, 29-34, 43).
