Hunting records: Gogerddan and other hunts

Papers relating mainly to the Gogerddan hunt but also to a small number of other hunts in Wales and England. The Gogerddan group comprises personal hunting journals or diaries of several members of the Pryse family, 1836-1923, Gogerddan Hounds pedigree books, 1834-1899, and Gogerddan Hunt hound pack lists, accounts, etc., 1840-1935. The non-Gogerddan group, relates to other hunts in west Wales and the Cotwolds, and to various hunting associations, and comprises mainly hound pack lists, reports and year books, 1848-1910

Gogerddan forestry and timber records

Forestry and timber production records of the Gogerddan estate, 1816-1923. They comprise accounts, both in volumes and on loose sheets; timber harvesting books; and timber valuations, particulars, agreements and letters concerning timber.

Caernarfonshire deeds and documents

Title deeds and other documents relating to properties belonging to the Brogyntyn estate in Caernarfonshire, 1813-1924. There are four series, comprising leases of parts of Borth-y-gest farm, Ynyscynhaearn, for building plots, 1847-1924; miscellaneous deeds and documents for properties in Cricieth, Dolbenmaen, Llanfihangel-y-Pennant, Llanystumdwy, Morfa Bychan, Penmorfa, Treflys and Ynyscynhaearn, 1813-1909; licences and leases of mines and quarries in Caernarfonshire, 1845-1890; and licences for Ereiniog Peat and Brick Works, 1871-1883.

Gogerddan sale catalogues and papers relating to estate sales

Printed sale catalogues for portions of the Gogerddan estate and for other Cardiganshire estates in which Gogerddan may have had an interest, 1858-1923; and sale agreements, notices, schedules of property for sale, etc, 1813-1921. The properties were situated mainly in the parishes of Aberystwyth, Llanbadarn Fawr, Llanfihangel Genau’r-Glyn and Llangynfelyn.

Gogerddan agency and tenancy papers

Papers deriving from the routine daily work of the Gogerddan agents and from the system of tenancy used on the estate. The documents include agents’ notebooks and work papers, 1810-1925; notifications to tenants, landlord and bailiff, 1851-1918; and registers and schedules of leases, (Watermark 1853)-1913.

Papers of Thomas Morgan, Prothonotary

Papers of Thomas Morgan, Prothonotary on the Chester circuit during the Great Sessions of Denbighshire and Montgomeryshire, which probably came to Gogerddan through the agent, James Morice of Wallog or his wife (nee Anne Watkin) who was a beneficiary of Thomas Morgan’s will. The papers derive both from his professional career and hs private life, comprising bill books, prothonotary’s charges book, charges sheets, etc., 1785-1837, 1892-1894; prothonotary’s professional papers and a compensation claim, 1787-(Postmark 1847); private accounts (Watermark 1810)-1850; and miscellaneous personal papers, 1779-1853.
