A bound volume containing the original typescript of an apparently unpublished play, The Winding Stair, by Gwen Pierce of Caerwys, and Professor Eliza Marian Butler of Cambridge, based on the latter's biography of the poet Rainer Maria Rilke, and performed by the Caerwys Amateur Dramatic Society at Caerwys and Chester, 1944 (see E. M. Butler, Paper Boats (London, 1959)). A contemporary cast-list, with notes on the back by Gwen Pierce for another play, and biographical notes on the actors, c. 1990, by Tom Lloyd-Roberts, have been tipped in at the beginnning of the volume.
