In the same year it was sold on to Edward Jones of Tythyn Issa, Henllan, with an assignment in trust by Samuel Small of a 1000 year term (existing as a result of a previous mortgage). John Wynne Griffith of Garn purchased the property in 1815, adding to the lands which his grandfather, John Griffith (2), had purchased in Gwaun Dwysog more than sixty years previously.

Bryn Rhedyn, Henllan

The file comprises a copy of the will of Thomas Edwards of Nant (Twm o'r Nant), 1807, in which he devised to his wife, Elizabeth, land called Bryn Rhedyn in the parish of Henllan, near the border with Llansannan, which he had from his father, bought using money borrowed from Evan Jones, butcher, of Nantglyn, with further bequests to other members of his family.

Edwards, Thomas, 1739-1810

Tan y Graig, Henllan

The file comprises certification, 1813, by William Jones of Groes that he has given possession of a croft called Tan y Graig to John Wynne Griffith in exchange for a field called Croft Francon, belonging to Gwaun Dwysog.

Cottages in Henllan

The file comprises a deed of sale by Thomas Mostyn Edwards and John Heaton, assignees of the bankrupt Rev. Roger Clough of Bathafarn, to John Wynne Griffith for four cottages in Henllan, 1829.

Smith's shop and Cross Keys, Henllan

The file comprises a draft deed of sale by Thomas Longueville Longueville and Edward Williams, trustees of Frederick Richard West, to Hugh Hughes of a smith's shop and croft whereon H.H. had already erected a house, called the Cross Keys, and a draft mortgage of the premises by H.H. to George Griffith of Garn, 1856.

Twysog, Lodge Farm, Bwlch Sadwrn, etc., Henllan and Llanefydd

The file comprises a deed of sale, 1867, by Baron Edward Walter Charles Grainger and his mortgagees to George Griffith, of Twysog, Lodge Farm, Old Mill, Holburn, Tyddyn Issa, Bwlch Sadwrn, land at Tryan, in Henllan and Llanefydd, and messuages in School Street, Henllan, with several drafts, and abstracts of title, 1795-1866, 1867.

Tyddyn Thomas Foulke/Tan yr Eglwys/Tan y Fynwent, and Tu yn y Bryn, Henllan

The file comprises deeds for Tyddyn Thomas Foulke, otherwise called Tan yr Eglwys or Tan y Fynwent, Tu yn y Bryn and a sitting place in the parish church of Henllan. The properties were mortgaged by Thomas Foulkes and Alce, his wife, in 1699, and were sold by their son, John, to Robert Wynne, son of Charles Wynne of Grygor, in 1707. In 1736, Robert Wynne's son, John, took out a mortgage which was assigned back to his father following his death in 1757. The properties formed part of the lands mentioned in the marriage settlement of Robert Wynne's daughter, Elizabeth, when she married Ambrose Lewis of Beaumaris in 1752. John Griffith (3) of Garn purchased them in 1777 from John Bodychen Sparrow, who had acquired them through his marriage to Anne, the daughter of Ambrose Lewis and Elizabeth Wynne. Some time before 1757, the name of Tyddyn Thomas Foulke was changed to Tyddyn Tan yr Eglwys, but it also seems to have been called Tan y Fynwent. [The premises were later settled to uses of a settlement between John Wynne Griffith and his mother, 1801].

Tyddyn Glan y Ffynnon, Gwaun Dwysog etc, Henllan

The file comprises deeds for Tyddyn Glan y Ffynnon, Gwaun Dwysog and other properties in Tywysog and Ereifiad, purchased between 1748 and 1756 by John Griffith (2) of Garn from Henry Hughes the younger and the administrators of Catherine Raper, surviving heirs of Hugh Lloyd of Pwllheli, grocer. Hugh Lloyd had mortgaged the premises in 1722 and in his will, made the following year, he directed that payment of his debts should be met from the rents and profits of his lands. Attempts were made to pay his debts and legacies by means of assignments and further mortgages between 1729 and 1748, but eventually the decision was made to sell. The purchase was delayed by the death of Catherine Raper in 1751, by legal actions concerning debts on the estate and by a claim to title by a niece of Hugh Lloyd. Under John Griffith's will, proved 1759, Gwaun Dwysog and other purchased premises were devised to trustees to raise portions for his daughters and thereafter to his son to become part of the entailed estate. The final assignment involved in the conveyance did not take place until 1764, six years after his death. -- The bundle includes mortgages, probate records for Hugh Lloyd, 1723, Catherine Raper, 1751, 1754, and her daughter, Sarah Taylor, 1754, and deeds of sale to John Griffith, 1748/9, 1756.

Premises in Henllan

The file comprises a release of dower by Gwen Williams, otherwise Wynne, widow of John Wynne of Henllan to Elizabeth Wynne, sister of J.W., on unnamed premises in Henllan.

Ffrith Eithin/Rhes y Cae, Henllan

The file comprises deeds, 1766-1856, for Ffrith Eithin, alias Rhes y Cae, which had been mortgaged to Mary Wynne by Thomas Evans of Denbigh in 1803. As executor of her will, her son-in-law, John Wynne Griffith, was entitled to claim repayment of the mortgage money. The presence of a draft deed of sale would suggest that the property had become forfeit to the Griffith family, intended to be sold by George Griffith in 1856.

Lands and smithy, Henllan, and Dolben, Llanefydd

The file comprises deeds for lands (Bryngwyn, Bryn Robin, etc.) and a smithy in Henllan, and a property called Dolben, Llanefydd, which were sold by Robert Salusbury Cotton to John Jones in 1776. The bundle includes a mortgage by John Jones to Robert Williams of Gwysaney, 1780, after which date Dolben disappears from the deeds. In 1793 an agreement was made to sell the lands at Henllan to John Wynne Griffith, and they were assigned to him the following year.

House in Lleweni, Cae Tan y Skybor, Groffte Palmant, etc., Henllan

The file comprises three abstracts of title, 1686-1749, 1686-1786, 1686-1801, to a messuage in Lleweni and lands called Cae Tan y Skybor, Groffte Palmant, etc., which John Williams purchased from Dorothy Marle or Marlington and her husband, William, in about 1801 and a schedule of deeds, followed by a mortgage to Nathaniel Minshall of Pen y Palmant, in 1819. John Griffith (2) of Garn was vouchee to a recovery in 1749.

Buarth Bach, Llanefydd

The file comprises deeds for Buarth Bach, which was part of the lands which came into the hands of Mathew Hughes of Llanefydd when he married Gwen Davies, daughter of Alice vch John Foulke of Berain, 1662. The lands were described as a capital messuage in Dincadfel, lands called Kay Tu Hwnt i'r Berllan and Y Weirglodd, and a cottage and parcels of land, which included Buarth Bach, in the township of Bodysgawen. The properties were mortgaged twice by David Hughes, in 1716 and 1722, to Henry Williams of Denbigh. After the latter's death, his executors assigned the mortgage in 1733 to Robert Williams of Lleweni Green in trust for the payment of legacies, and the equity of redemption descended to David Hughes' daughter, Jane. In 1738 Jane and her husband, John Roberts, directed Robert Williams to assign the mortgage to Peter Jones of Plas Pantwn and to sell him the cottage and land in Bodysgawen. A settlement was made of the purchased premises in 1739 to raise £40 for the portion of P.J.'s daughter, Anne, and empowering him and Jane to raise £60 for the payment of remaining debts. By 1785 the lands were in the ownership of William Jones of St Andrews Holborn, London, and Thomas Peake, who mortgaged Buarth Bach, followed by a further mortgage in 1787, to John Madocks of Lincolns Inn. He sold it, with the consent of William Jones, to John Williams of Plasnewydd, Denbighshire, who mortgaged it in 1817. By 1832, Buarth Bach was in the ownership of Thomas Hughes of Liverpool, devisee of John Hughes of Garthgynnan, who sold it to George Griffith of Garn in 1864.

Bryndeunydd/Bryn Issa, Llanefydd

The file comprises deeds for Bryndeunydd or Bryn Issa, which was mortgaged by Richard Parry of Llwynynn, Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd, in 1834. An abstract shows the descent of title between 1773 and 1843. After his death the trustees of his will enlarged the property with the purchase of an encroachment from the Commissioners of Woods and Forests, shortly before selling to George Griffith of Garn in 1849. This appears to be different from the capital messuage of Bryndeunydd, which was sold by John Richard Heaton to George Griffith in 1856.

Merllyn, Henllan Mill and house, and Pentre Du, Llanefydd and Henllan

The file comprises deeds for the sale of Merllyn, Henllan Mill and house, and Pentre Du by John Heaton and John Richard Heaton, his eldest son, to George Griffith in 1837. Pentre Du had been included in the marriage settlement of Robert Wynne, 1751, and was sold by his son to John and Sarah Heaton with the rest of the Plasnewydd estate in 1808. J.H. acquired Merllyn and the Mill, mortgaged by Robert Watkin Wynne in 1790, by an exchange of lands in 1831. Another property at Pentre Du had been purchased by John Griffith (3) of Garn in 1782.
