Association general minute books,

Bound minutes of meetings held by the Monmouthshire and South Wales Coal Owners Association. The minutes cover the Association's general meetings, special meetings, annual meetings and meetings of the Council. The early volumes also contain the minutes of the Cardiff District Board to May 1892 (see A1-5) and the Finance Committee meetings to March 1888 (see A1-3). The minutes include the original motion to form The Association of Iron and Coal Masters; negotiations leading to the formation of The Monmouthshire and South Wales Coal Owners Association; the division of the Association into 3 districts (Cardiff, Newport and Swansea); consideration of reports from the district boards and various appointed committees - such as the House Coal Owners Committee, Finance Committee, owners' side of the Sliding Scale Committee, the Coal Shippers Committee, etc.; discussions and resolutions embodying the Association's general policy on such issues as wage rate changes, strikes, the Sliding Scales, the Conciliation Board, Home Office Special Rules, etc.; approval of applications for membership and acceptance of resignations from existing members; decisions on policy to be adopted towards Government Bills and Acts affecting the mining interest; relations with the Mining Association of Great Britain; and all matters affecting the coal industry of South Wales are covered generally.
