Grant from Roger Puleston of Emerall, co. Flint esq., John Craven of Tussingham, co. Chester, gent., and Anthony Craven of Dodleston co. Chester, gent., to Rauffe Ravenscroft of the town of Flint, gent., and Edmund Newsone of Prestburie, co. Chester, clerk, of the following properties on trust for Dame Mary Egerton wife of Sir Richard Egerton of Rydley, co. Chester, kt. :- (I) two meadows called Lords Meadowe (2i acres) and Bulle Meadowe (5 acres) being parcel of the Queen's manor of Hewlington in the lordship of Browmefield and Yale, co. Denbigh meadows called Crackstring's Meadowe or Craxston's Meadow (7 acres) and Saunders Hey alias Le Hey (5 acres) in the liberty of the town of Lyons in the said lordship, lands of the Queen called Hemhouse (2 acres), Wayrhooke (40 acres), Cavercyofts (3 acres), Kay Mawre (7 acres), Seighcoyde (8 acres), Cowe Leasow (7 acres), Oxeheye (5 acres), Kaye Coghyn Smieth Meadow (31/2 acres), a wood called Cocks-wood, closes of land called Cocks-fields (50 acres), being parcel of the demesne lands of the Queen's manor of Hem in the said lordship of Bromfield and Yale, all which said premises had been demised by letters patent dated 10 June, 1567, to the Right Hon. William, late Lord Herbert, Earl of Pembroke, for 21 years, at the yearly rent of £14 3s. 4d., and the said lease had been assigned by him on 11 June, 1567, to the said Roger Puleston and John Craven; (2) closes of land called Madok's More, Dolwerne, and Elthe lying in Hewlington, co. Denbigh, being parcel of the said lordship of Bromfyeld, co. Denbigh, which said closes had by letters patent of Queen Mary, dated 9 Flay, 1554, been demised to Sir John Bourne, kt., for 21 years at the yearly rent of £6 16s. 8d., and the reversion of which premises had by letters patent of Queen Elizabeth, dated 2 July, 1563, been demised to John alias Jenkin Gwyn for 21 years (to commence from the termination of the lease to Sir John Bourne) at the yearly rent of £8, who, on 5 July, 1563, assigned the said demise to the said Roger Puleston. The said Roger Puleston, on 2 Dec., 1564, assigned to John Burton and Richard ap Howell the lease he had acquired from Jenkin Gwyn and they, on 22 March, 1567/8, assigned the said lease to the said Roger Puleston and John Craven. By letters patent, dated 18 Jan., 1570/1, the said last mentioned three closes were demised (for 30 years from the date of the expiration of the lease granted to Jenkin Gwyn) to Sir Henry Radcliffe, kt., who, on 14 March, 1570/1, assigned his lease to the said Roger Puleston, John Craven, and Anthony Craven; (3) the parish church and parsonage and lands of Astburie, co. Chester, which by an indenture dated 14 Nov., 1546, had been granted by Hugh Powell, clerk, late parson of Astburie, to the said Thomas Craven, esq. for 80 years at the yearly rent of £60, and by assignment the said lease had become vested in the said Roger Puleston, John Craven and Anthony Craven. Attached is an indenture dated 28 Sept., 1573, whereby after reciting as above and that the said Roger Puleston, John Craven, and Anthony Craven, on 31 Aug., 1573, had assigned all the above-mentioned leases, by the direction of Dame Mary Egerton, to Rauffe Ravenscrofte of the town of Flint, gent., and Edmund Newsone of Prestburye, co. Chester, clerk, on trust for the said Dame Mary, the said Rauffe Ravenscrofte and Edmund Newsone by the like direction assigned to the said Roger Puleston, Thomas Leigh of Adlington, co. Chester, esq., Rauf Egerton of Rydley, co. Chester, esq., George Ravenscrofte of Bretton, co. Flint, esq., John Craven of Tussingham, co. Chester, gent., and Anthony Craven of Doddlestone, co. Chester, gent., all the above-mentioned leases on trust for the said Dame Mary Egerton and her appointees., Witnesses: Thomas Gravener; Thomas Egerton; Rychard Mascy, jun.; John Egerton; Henry Hawks.
