Llwyd Hir,

A notebook marked (?by Taliesin Williams) 'Llwyd Hir'. On the cover EW has written 'Geiriau Cymreig cymmysgedig' and 'Examine this for the History of the Bards. Many things of Great Importance'. There are also four loose sheets which are similar in form and content, and which may have belonged to this manuscript. See note inside front cover concerning ink and pencil crossings.

Triads and Bardic Institutes,

(a) A notebook (8 pp., in Welsh) containing 'Trioedd y Lladron', twelve in number, 'o Lyfr Thomas Philip o Dreos', in the autograph of Iolo Morganwg, followed by 'Credo Wladwriaethol' written in another hand; (b) The Bardic Institutes in the autograph of Iolo Morganwg (in English): (i) '[The] Bardic Institution according to [the] Laws of Gruffydd ab Cynan'. A note at the end states that this is an abstract of the Institutes as given by Dr John David Rhys in his Welsh Grammar, 1593; (ii) 'The Bardic Institutes as Traditionally retained down to the Present Day, by the Glemorganshire Bards who assert, and believe that they are unalteredly the same with those of the Ancient British Bards and Druids'.

Carchariad Tomos Glyn Cothi,

Papers, mainly in the autograph of Iolo Morganwg, relating to the case of the Rev. Thomas Evans (Tomos Glyn Cothi), who was imprisoned in 1801 for sedition (16 items). Some of these papers have been described by Prof. G. J. Williams in Llên Cymru, 3 (1954-6), 120-122.

Memorandum-books,

Two memorandum-books or notebooks which belonged to Iolo Morganwg. The earlier of the two, marked 'Memoranda Hints. &c. 1805', contains triads, proverbs, 'englynion' and other verses, music, particulars of the contents of 'Ancient Historical Documents relating to Wales and the Welsh Nation', a work in two volumes 'To be published by E. Wms in 1807', various Welsh words with their meanings, a list of printed collections of Welsh poetry, including hymns, notes on versification, and a list of 'Traits in the Southwalian from the Troubadorian Poetry', etc. The other which has fewer entries contains, among other things, a note headed 'Ofergoelion am y Tylwyth Teg ym Morganwg', a list of Copper Smoke Subscribers and Judges, a few recipes, and a series of 'Pennillion Diarhebgoel' by Iolo Morganwg.

Notes on grammar,

A notebook in the autograph of Iolo Morganwg containing grammatical notes. Inside the pocket of the front cover is written 'Grammatical Collections. Welsh.' It also contains a list of 'Beirdd Eisteddfod y Bewpyr, cyn belled (medd ef) ag y gallodd Mr Sion Bradford eu cael allan o gaffadwriaethau Watkin Powel o Ben y Fai', &c.

Y Brasnadd Newydd

A collection, entitled 'Y Brasnadd Newydd Medi'r 22nd. 1817', of a hundred and sixty four hymns based on the Psalms and other portions of Scripture by Edward Williams (Iolo Morganwg), similar to those included in his Salmau yr Eglwys yn yr Anialwch, 1812 and 1834. Some of the hymns are accompanied by tunes.
