The music manuscripts and papers, 1933-2010, of Alun Hoddinott, comprising a large group of music scores and sketches, [1940?]-2007; and papers, 1933-2010, relating to his life and work, comprising mainly correspondence, 1933-2010, scrapbooks, 1940-2008, concert programmes, 1936-2008, catalogues of works, 1946-2007; and articles and reviews, 1954-2006. Two additional manuscripts: anthem 'In the Beginning' (Opus 23A), and Toccata alla Giga for organ (Opus 37), purchased July 2016 have been incorporated into the main series of music A3 and A5. An additional group received in 2017, of mainly personal papers and correspondence is listed under 'Alun Hoddinott, 2017 (additional)'. Additional papers comprising handwritten scores of Alun Hoddinott's Nocturne 1 for Piano (Opus 9) (1956) and Nocturne 2 for Piano (Opus 16, No. 1) (1959) (December 2021 donation) have been added to the description. A sketchbook of Symphony II Op29 was purchased September 2022.

An additional group of paper collated by Rhiannon Hoddinot. Some items, including letters to Rhiannon and press articles post-date the death of Alun Hoddinott in 2008. The additional group of papers include, interviews and talks, 1965-2013; certificates and awards, 1938-2007; letters, 1958-2013; some personal and biographical papers, 1948-2010; programmes and press articles, 1964-2012.

Scripts without music,

Scripts of a number of radio or television plays for which Alun Hoddinott apparently composed the incidental music, but for which no music has been identified. The titles include 'Treason' and 'Yn y tren' (Saunders Lewis), and 'Jackie the jumper' (Gwyn Thomas),

Pencil sketches of incidental music, possibly for a television drama entitled 'Blodeuwedd' by Saunders Lewis; and a photocopy of a corrected script of 'Blodeuwedd'.

Symphony no. 2 : : op. 29,

Bound ink full score, dated May 1962 and marked 'B'; a printed score (Copyright OUP, 1964), marked 'C', with pencil annotations; another five reprographic copies, one bound and marked 'A'. All scores bear the OUP label. Also a Sketchbook [1950s-62], [purchased September 2022], containing 28 sheets of music with printed staves and pencil notation by the composer. Some parts scribbled through and some small repairs. Comprising four sections of Symphony II. Bound out of order: (iv) Maestoso-Allegro-Maestoso-Presto, (i) Andante (not Adagio as in the finished work), (ii) Allegro, (iii) Molto adagio.
