Legal precedents; catalogue of deeds,

A volume originally used by J. H. Davies to record some late nineteenth and early twentieth century legal precedents, including an opinion, 3 February [19]05, on the claim for payment of chief rents by freeholders 'in and about' Dinas Mawddwy. Beginning at the end of the volume is a catalogue compiled by Annie J. Ellis, Thomas Iorwerth Ellis and J. H. Davies, c. 1914, of bundles of deeds and documents numbered 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 (Watkins of Moelcerni, Cardiganshire) and dated 1549-1848 in the Cwrtmawr collection of deeds (now in the National Library of Wales and described in detail in a typewritten catalogue (1956)).

Mynegai i 'Amryw',

Two volumes in the hand of Annie Jane Ellis, with additions by J. H. Davies, being an index, in alphabetical order of authors' surnames, to volumes of 'Amryw' ('to No. 403') in the Cwrtmawr Library.

Ellis, Annie J. (Annie Jane), 1873-1942

Miscellaneous papers,

Miscellaneous papers, including an extract 'From the Mabinogion of Lady Guest' [cf. The Mabinogion ... translated with notes, by Lady Charlotte Guest (London, 1877), pp. 74-6], a list of early Welsh books (in the autograph of [Thomas Edward Ellis], an extract from Kinmel MS 76 [NLW MS 1576] relating to Thomas Lloyd of Penmaen, and a bibliography entitled '"Y Bardd Cwsc" by Elis Wyn o Lasynys' [cf. The Journal of the Welsh Bibliographical Society, Vol. IV, pp. 199-208]. There are also a number of blue wrappers from past issues of 'Beibl Peter Williams' (1770) and the Welsh edition of Cann's Bible (1790) with printed proposals, Trefecca, 1786, relating to the latter, and part of a notebook (eighteenth century), which belonged to David Jones of Bryn y Rhig near Dolgelly and others, containing a few 'englynion', etc.

Guest, Charlotte, Lady, 1812-1895

Griffiths, Annie J. Hughes,

Also signed : Ellis, Annie J. Aberystwyth / London / Brighton / Borth / Rhyl / Llandrindod Wells. She would be grateful if EMH could publish the enclosed letter (not included), ensuring that the authors of Tom Ellis's biography gain every assistance [A/1217]. A. J. H. G. asks if EMH will undertake to write a biography of her late husband, Tom Ellis as R. T. Jenkins is unable to do so [A/1218]. The writer thanks EMH for agreeing to write the biography [A/1220], and discusses matters relating to the work, such as source material and EMH's expenses [A/1224-9]. The remaining letters are described individually in the former schedule, 'E. Morgan Humphreys Papers, A List', available in hard copy at NLW. English and Welsh.

Letter from Peter Hughes Griffiths, Llandrindod Wells,

Annie and Tom enjoyed their recent stay at Plas Penucha. Has often thought of writing to John Herbert Lewis on the subject of soul books, but is now writing to request a list of 'living books of testimony'. Is convinced many people are living 'quite outside a great secret'. Reflects on human nature.

Letter from Peter Hughes Griffiths, 42 West Heath Drive,

Was glad to hear that the operation had helped John Herbert Lewis. A number of members at Charing Cross have died this year. 'The depression in Wales however has brought a tremendous number of Welsh people into London & the number of tocynnau aelodaeth read on Sunday nights has been longer than ever'. Annie has visited Mrs Mostyn Lewis. Laments the state of the modern world.

David Davies: General Correspondence,

Some of the letters relate to the purchase of an estate at Coulin in Scotland by David Davies. Includes letters from Rev. Gwilym Davies, Principal J. H. Davies, Cwrt Mawr, Mrs Annie J. Hughes-Griffiths, Colonel D. Watts Morgan MP, and Frances Stevenson (writing on behalf of D. Lloyd George).

Davies, Gwilym, 1879-1955.
