(I). Verses entitled 'Coffadwriaeth Y Parch. Archddiacon [Thomas] Beynon' by 'Galaethfardd Gwawdrydd', ie Thomas Lloyd Jones ('Gwenffrwd'), Mobile, Alabama, USA, late of Holywell, Flintshire, and 'Verses' by the Reverend Daniel Evans ('Daniel Ddu o Geredigion'), Fellow of Jesus College, Oxford, composed after having read the poem by 'Galaethfardd Gwawdrydd'. The volume is in the hand of Dd Morgan, Penrhyn Deudraeth and is said to have been transcribed on 16 March 1871, and recopied on 5 December 1879, from Awenyddion Gwent a Dyfed: sef y Cyfansoddiadau Barddoniaidd a ennillasant Dlysau, a Gwobrau eraill yn Eisteddfod Caerdydd ... ar yr 20fed, 21ain, a'r 22ain o Awst 1834. A composite volume almost entirely in the hand of the Reverend Robert Williams (1810-81), Rhydycroesau, near Oswestry. It contains a list of contents and a complete transcript of Peniarth MS 152 ('cywyddau' and 'awdlau' by Gutto'r Glynn, etc.), completed at Rhydycroesau, 21 December 1870; a transcript from Brogyntyn MS 2, with an English translation, of a 'cywydd' by Tudur Penllyn transcribed 2 February 1871; two copies of a 'cywydd' by Sion Kain transcribed from Peniarth MS [116], 14 November 1876, with relevant marginal pedigrees, poetry in strict and free metres by Walter Davies ['Gwallter Mechain'] from 'Cydymeth Ifiengtid; sef Cerddi Cowyddau, ag Englynion tra dewisol na buant yn Argraffedig yr rioed hyd eitha fy ngwibodheth, sef Gwaith amriw rai o brydyddion cymru wedi gasglu gan Dafydd Evans, Llanfihangel, 1785'; 'Cywyddau Cywilyddus o [ffug-]waith Gweyrful Mechain', a 'cywydd' by Tydur Penllyn and 'englynion' by Iorwerth Vynglwyd, from 'Llyfr Hir Llywarch Reynolds' (NLW MS 970) and Llanstephan MS 35; and an incomplete list of contents of Cwrtmawr MS 242. A composite volume almost entirely in the hand of Daniel Silvan Evans containing Welsh metrical translations of poetry by Felicia Dorothea Hemans, Helen Herbert (Aberaeron), Edward Verity (St David's College, Lampeter), Lord Byron, [Johann Wolfgang von] Goethe, etc. and original poetry by D. Silvan Evans, much of it dated at Llanover, Llanarth (Cardiganshire), St David's College, Lampeter, etc. during the period 1843-7; 'Telyn Cymru', being transcripts of poetry in free and strict metres by Thomas Lloyd Jones ('Gwenffrwd'), [John Jones] ('Tegid'), ?Ioan Blackwell ['Alun'], [Thomas Edwards] ('Caervallwch'), [William Owen-Pughe] ('Idrison') and [Daniel Evans] ('Daniel Ddu [o Geredigion]'); 'Selections of English Poetry' by Mary Howitt, Felicia Dorothea Hemans, [William] Knox, [David] Vedder, Letitia Elizabeth Landon (afterwards Mrs Maclean), A. M. G. A diary, January 1832 to 21 February 1847, of Robert Williams, perpetual curate of Rhydycroesau, near Oswestry from 1838 to 1879. Robert Williams served as curate of Llangernyw, Denbighshire from 1833 to 1836 and was appointed perpetual curate of Llangadwaladr in 1837. The diary, which is written in Welsh, contains references to events in his home district of Conway as well as to the areas where he served as a cleric. Beginning at the end of the volume there are poems by [John Jones] ('Tegid') (1828); a list of books entitled 'Llyvrau yn Ty Deon', 19 August 1832; accounts with booksellers, stationers, etc., 1832-9; extracts from Aristotle's Rhetoric; and lists of clothes ('Rhestr Dillad'), linen ('Lliain') and carpenter's tools ('Oferynau Saer').

A manuscript in the hand of William John Roberts ('Gwilym Cowlyd') containing two 'awdlau' on 'Pwlpud Cymru' by 'Gweledydd' and 'Hefin ab Gwyndaf' respectively, which were submitted for competition at Pontypridd National Eisteddfod, 1893, and an ?'incomplete adjudication on the 'hir a thoddeidiau' on 'Toriad y Dydd' at the same eisteddfod. 'Gwilym Cowlyd' was one of the adjudicators in both competitions. The prize for the 'awdl' was awarded to 'Obed-Edom (the Reverend J. Ceulanydd Williams, Maesteg) and for the 'hir a thoddaid' to 'Glan Gweryddon' (William Roberts, 'Gwilym Eryri').

A composite volume of three small notebooks containing 'cywyddau', 'englynion' and English verses by 'Sioseb Nerquis', with some 'englynion' by 'I. Ddu' and 'Merddin Wylts [sic] o Nerquis'; and transcripts by Mary Richards, Darowen, c. 1861, of Welsh metrical psalms and hymns by Thomas Roberts ('Philo Cadfan'), Joseph Marpole, William Jones, John Williams (Dolgellau), and anonymous compositions. One of the hymns, dated 1861, is in memory of the Reverend James Hamer 'Offeiriad Llanfihangel [yng Ngwynfa] a Discybl i David Harris [?Carno]'.

A small notebook containing 'penillion telyn' and other verses, some to be sung to the airs 'Lili Lon', 'Nos Galan', and 'Ar hyd y Nos'. Some of the verses appear in John Ceiriog Hughes: Oriau'r Hwyr. At the end of the volume the following note occurs: 'Some of the Sheets near the end of your (my) copy are out of place. D. Parry'. An inscription on the inside upper cover suggests that the notebook was originally intended as an account book of Messrs Reed & Owens with Messrs Whitney and Wilson, Barton Street, Liverpool.

An early nineteenth century volume containing tabulated Biblical references arranged under such subjects as 'Ynghylch yr Ysgrythyrau', 'Am y Drindawd', 'Am Briodoliaethau Duw', 'Yn nghylch Ordinhadau Duw', 'Yn nghylch Gweithredoedd Duw', 'Yn nghylch Cwymp Dyn', etc. Subsequent additions include 'Ychydig Bennillion' ( i.e. a hymn by T. Jones), a transcript of a letter from Evan Harries (formerly of Llandovery) from Calabah Island, near Bombay to David Davies [Congregational minister], Swansea, 1805 (the writer's activities with the Regiment, the writer's religious experiences, greetings) (together with verses by the writer entitled 'Cyngor i Bregethwyr ieuaingc'); expository notes on 'Prynedigaeth', 'Perseverance of the Saints', 'Schism', 'The excellency of the Bible' and 'Astonishing Accuracy of the Bible'; and catechisms on 'Gwir Wybodaeth', 'Am Lygredigaeth Tafod' and 'Am Gyfiawnder Ymarferol'.

A notebook in the hand of Morris Davies, Bangor containing 'Select Extracts' from printed sources (e.g. the introduction to W. Williams: Caniadau y rhai sydd ar y Môr o Wydr (3ydd arg., 1764); poetry in strict and free metres by [John Jones] 'Tegid', [Daniel Evans] 'Daniel Ddu o Geredigion', Huw Morus, [Thomas Edwards] 'Caerfallwch', Rice Jones [o'r Blaenau] and [David Richards] 'Dafydd Ionawr'; an account of 'The Musical Idiot' in the Salpêtrière at Paris; extracts from William Owen-Pughe: Coll-Gwynfa (Llundain, 1819); and metrical proverbs by 'Richard (Risiart) Dlawd'.

Miscellaneous papers, including a catechism entitled 'Sylwadau ar y Ddeddf foesol'; 'Gwlad ffynnonau dyfroedd', being a description of the Llanwrtyd district; bibliographical memoranda in the hand of John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd'); English verses in the hand of Angharad Llwyd; an 'englyn' by [David Richards] '[Dewi] Silin'; an 'awdl' entitled 'Y Pregethwr Politicaidd' (Ar y pedwar mesur ar hugain) by 'Pechadur' in the hand of John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd'); etc. The papers are contained within the cover of an account book of Evan Evans, c. 1854.

'Trysorfa'r Bardd', being a holograph collection of poetry in strict and free metres, almost entirely in Welsh, by David Saunders, otherwise Dafydd ab Domos Saunders, otherwise 'Dafydd Glan Teifi' (1769-1840), Baptist minister successively at Aberdyar, Carmarthenshire and Merthyr Tudful, Glamorganshire. At the beginning is an incomplete address to the reader ('Llythr at y Darllenydd') and a list of contents ('Tabl Cynnwyssiad y Llyfr'). The volume was begun at the author's home at Undergrove [Lampeter, Cardiganshire], Christmas day 1798, and was completed about 1822.

A thin notebook containing englynion, etc. on Biblical subjects and on subjects of Anglesey interest e.g. 'Y Gledrffordd i Lanerchymedd'. Three of the englynion, on the inside upper and lower covers, are attributed to 'Maudwy', but the remainder are anonymous.

Miscellaneous poetry in strict and free metres by Jonathan Hughes (Dolwen, near Llanrwst), Owen Jones (Dolwen), [W. J. Roberts] 'G[wilym]' Cowlyd', 'Owain Fardd' (1891) and E. Williams, and scraps of anonymous and incomplete poems; a holograph letter from [John Williams, Llangernyw] 'Llenor o'r Llwyni', to 'G[wilym] Cowlyd', undated (the addressee's last letter to the writer)'; and a medical recipe.

A notebook in three hands containing English translations of poetry by Alphonse de Lamartine, among them being versifications by G. Hughes, Oakley Lodge, Gloucestershire, and translations by Amédé Louis Joseph Guidez; 'englynion' by [Daniel Evans] 'Daniel Ddu [o Geredigion]' and [John Jones] 'Ioan Tegid', 1828, and English translations and imitations of poetry of 'Ioan Tegid' by T. S. A. and T. J., 1832-6; and an extract from Francois René, vicomte de Chateaubriand: Les Martyrs, ou Le Triomphe de la Religion Chrétienne, together with a corresponding Latin translation by M. Guidez. Although the fly-leaf bears the name of Alcwyn C. Evans, Carmarthen none of the text is in his hand.

An essay (33 pp.) on total abstinence entitled 'Traethawd ar y manteision ac anfanteision Llwyrymwrthodiad oddiwrth bob math o wirodydd meddwol o dan arwydd y Rhiban Glas' by 'Eukrateias' (J. Myles Jones, Llansawel). Written at the end are a few miscellaneous englynion, etc., among them being an 'Englyn i Bont ar Llechau, ger Llangadog, sir Gaerfyrddin'.

A notebook of John Thomas [? of Cwm Sidan Fawr, Llansadwrn, Carmarthenshire] containing lists of preachers and their texts at [Calvinistic Methodist] Association meetings at Blaenafon, 1827, Llangeitho, 1829, Aberystwyth, 1830, and elsewhere; unidentified church accounts (members' contributions, bread and wine accounts, etc.) [?1832]; farming memoranda (dates of servicing of cows, etc.), 1830-5; and scraps of verse.

A volume containing some 'penillion' and, at the other end and largely in a different hand, late eighteenth and early nineteenth century English poetry ('On the death of Cromwell', 'On the death of Admiral Lord Nelson', etc.). Some of the English poems are signed 'J.M.' There is also an 'englyn', in yet another hand, by Catrin Morgan. Watermark: 1813.

A volume containing holograph poetry by Evan Evans ('Ieuan Glan Geirionydd') written about 1820 and sent for correction to a mentor bearing the initials 'G. W.' [Griffith Williams ('Gutyn Peris')], who has made his amendments and critical remarks in pencil. The titles are 'Awdl ... er Coffadwriaeth am y Diweddar ... Charlotte Augusta, Merch Tywysog Cymru ... ', 'Awdl ... yn goffadwriaeth am Y Parchedig Thomas Charles B.A. o'r Bala ... ', and '[Cywydd] y Bedd'. W. J. Roberts ('G[wilym] Cowlyd') has testified (p. 46) that the contents are in the 'undoubted handwriting of 'Ieuan Glan Geirionydd''.
