Tails East, Heads West

Tails East, Heads West, a performance combining dance, music, word and image, was inspired by Jessica Cohen's study of t'ai chi ch'uan in Taiwan in 1984. Items comprise printed theatre programmes and flyers; press notices; printed arts magazines; and reviews.

Orchid Flower Blanch

Material relating to Earthfall co-founder Jessica Cohen's second solo work, Orchid Flower Blanch. Items comprise printed theatre programmes and flyers; printed booklets containing poetry in Mandarin with English translation; reviews; and postcards showing still photograph of Jessica Cohen.

Forever and Ever

Forever and Ever was commissioned for the UK Year of Literature (1995) and was the result of Earthfall's collaboration with Irish author Jamie O'Neill. The show, which toured throughout Britain and Europe, explored themes of confinement and oppression, negotiation and compromise and was produced with the support of Amnesty International. Items comprise printed theatre and festival programmes (including material relating to the Festival of Theatre Confrontations held in Lublin, Poland), flyers and newsletters; press notices; creative notes; tour schedule; and reviews.

Fabulous Wounds

Material relating to Fabulous Wounds, a black comedy about a failed terrorist and a dancer which incorporated live music into the performance. Premiered in Cardiff in 1997, the show toured extensively in Britain and Europe. Items comprise printed theatre programmes and flyers; printed guide to dance companies; creative notes; stage notes/directions; press cutting; and reviews.

Too Old To Dream

Material relating to the ten-minute short film Too Old To Dream, the product of collaboration between Earthfall and an over-70s group in Blackwood, Caerphilly, South Wales. Scripted by Earthfall founder members Jessica Cohen and Jim Ennis, the film was based on a childhood memory of one of the cast members, about half of whom were over 75 years of age. Too Old To Dream was premiered in Cardiff in 1998 and subsequently shown at film festivals in England, Ireland and Europe. Items comprise printed film/festival programmes and arts newspapers; printed production agreement; final script; stage notes/directions; background notes written by cast members; details relating to location shooting; press cuttings; and correspondence.

Rococo Blood

Rococo Blood, with its portrayal of fight-clubs and domestic violence, drew on the life and career of Cardiff boxer Jimmy Driscoll and his background in the mining communities of South Wales. The show premiered in Cardiff and toured throughout Britain and mainland Europe, including performances at London's Spring Loaded, the Absolutt Theatre Festival in Norway and the Dance Theatre Season in Amsterdam. aD

aD utilised an all-male cast and the influence of literary works including Dylan Thomas' poem Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night to portray the relationship between father and son. The show toured throughout Britain and mainland Europe. Items comprise printed theatre programmes and flyers; dance magazine; stage notes/directions; creative notes; and reviews. I Can't Stand Up For Falling Down

Material relating to I Can't Stand Up For Falling Down, a multi-media performance involving dance, music, a DJ and live film. The show, which toured throughout Britain and Europe, won the 2003 Theatre in Wales Award for Best Dance/Physical Theatre Production. Items comprise printed theatre programmes and flyers; printed invitation to performance premiere and post-show reception; creative notes; stage notes/directions; printed booklet profiling British dance companies; printed arts magazines/guides; printed performance ticket; press notices, one of which relates to a production of the show for the 2002 Stuttgart Festival; and reviews.

Hodē Galatan

Material relating to Hodē Galatan, a multi-media production which combined ancient Greek song with contemporary images and movement in depicting a narrative of love and war. The show, premiered in Wales in 2003, was the product of a collaboration between Earthfall and Polish performance company Chorea which began a long-standing partnership between the two groups. Items comprise printed theatre programme and flyer; stage notes/directions; and creative notes.

After the Birds/Po Ptakach

After the Birds/Po Ptakach was the product of collaboration between Earthfall and Polish theatre company Chorea, continuing the long-standing partnership between the two groups. Drawing on Aristophanes' comedy The Birds, the production combined ancient Greek choral song, contemporary music, vigorous dance, live music and film. Items comprise printed theatre programmes, posters and flyers; performance tickets; stage notes/directions; creative notes; printed volume charting the history of Chorea; article relating to Jim Ennis and Jessica Cohen; press notices; and reviews, including one featured in Planet magazine, October/November 2005 (bookmarked with printed Earthfall business card).

Running Away With The Hairdresser

Drawing visually on the works of artist Edward Hopper, Running Away With The Hairdresser explored relationships and the concept of 'the grass being always greener'. The show's musical eclecticism was the result of Earthfall's collaboration with musicians Frank Naughton and Jon Wygens and the BBC Welsh Symphony Orchestra. At Swim, Two Boys

Adapted from Irish author Jamie O'Neill's novel of the same name, At Swim, Two Boys depicted the developing relationship between two boys set against the backdrop of Ireland's 1916 Easter Rising. The winner of the 2005 Theatre in Wales Award for Best Dance/Physical Theatre Production, the show toured for three years at major theatre festivals throughout Britain and much of Europe. In 2011, Earthfall revived their production of At Swim, Two Boys to coincide with the tenth anniversary of the novel's publication. Bakkus

Bakkus, an exploration of fanaticism and cultism, was Earthfall's third collaboration with Poland's Chorea theatre company and toured in both Wales and Poland. The production drew mainly from Euripides' The Bacchae and incorporated choral music derived from traditional and ancient sources. Gravitas

Material relating to Gravitas, a multi-media performance of dance, film, text and live music set against a backdrop of urban dereliction. Gig

Produced in 2009/10, Gig chronicles the turbulent events in the life of a rock band, incorporating dance, live music and film. Items comprise printed theatre programmes, tour programme and flyers; creative notes and stage notes/directions; and musical score.

The Factory

Influenced by the underground arts scene of late 1950s/1960s New York City, The Factory utilised a multi-media approach of dance, image, film and live music. The production was premiered in 2010.
