Additional material includes obituaries and tributes to Doggie Hubbard, 2000 and 2003.

The group comprises mainly drafts, proofs, notes, printed sources and letters relevant to the preparation and publication of Hubbard's own books and his articles for magazines and newspapers, 1862-1980, similar papers linked with his editorship of the works of other authors, 1891-1976, radio and television scripts with related papers, 1949-1958, and royalty statements, accounts, bills and receipts resulting from his professional work, 1948-1969. There are also six boxes of card indexes, compiled during Hubbard’s working life [approx. 1933-1988].

Publication papers,

The series comprises material accumulated in the preparation and publication of books and articles by Clifford Hubbard, 1862-1980. It consists of typed and manuscript drafts, proofs, research notes, articles, pedigrees, extracts copied from canine literature, press cuttings and letters from publishers and individuals relating to specific books and articles, frequently accompanied by copies of Hubbard's own letters to them. The material in this series is consistently of a similar type, therefore only items of particular interest are mentioned separately at file level.

The English Setter Handbook,

The file includes typed copies of articles by canine experts, William Humphrey and Arthur Croxton Smith, together with other papers, 1948-1958, relevant to publication of The English Setter Handbook, 1958.

The file contents, dated 1862-1864, 1898-1912, 1944-1951, include early newspaper and other journal cuttings, 1862, 1864, 1898 and 1912, used in preparation of The Pekinese Handbook, 1951.

'Riku',

The file comprises a manuscript article about 'Riku', Hubbard's own Finnish Spitz, for which no details of publication have been traced.

Miscellaneous publication papers,

The file, originally an untitled bundle, contains drafts, research notes, newspaper and magazine cuttings and letters, some of them referring to particular books, journals and articles, including The Afghan Handbook, 'Always a Friend', The American Dachshund, 'Canis' dog features, Chambers Concise Encyclopedia, The Dog, The Dog Yearbook, Dogs in Britain and 'How to Live with a Dog', a catalogue of an exhibition of dog books held at Luton Central Library, 1968, and the script of a lecture on British and foreign dogs, 1897, 1915-1919, 1929-1950. Subjects of interest include animal mythology and superstition, greyhound racing, coursing, dog cemeteries, famous dogs, Alsatians, hunting, geological fossil evidence of dogs, canine conformation standards and literary indexing techniques.

'Canis' publications',

The file includes handwritten lists of newspaper and magazine publications by Hubbard under his own name and under his pseudonyms, 'Canis' and 'Barry Fraser', 1931-1948, with cuttings of several of the printed articles, an index to his files, 1938, lists of dog breeds and types, press cuttings about his life and reviews of his books.
