Appointment of Deputy Lieutenants

Commission of James I appointing Raphe Lord Eure Lieutenant in the principality of Wales, and the appointment of Sir Richard Pryse and John Lloyd as Deputy Lieutenants for the county of Cardigan, 1607.

Llanbadarn Fawr (Brynbras and Perfedd)

Letters patent of Elizabeth I, 1562 (copy), and James I, 1608, granting to John Pryse and Sir Richard Pryse respectively the farm of Brymbras (Brynbras) in the parish of Llanbadarn Fawr, with various tenements in the commote of Perfedd, some of which had been in the tenure of Griffith ap Ll'n Vayne, attainted, and which had been granted in 1564 to William Herle; also recording grants of lands in Llanbadarn Trefeglwys, previously in the possession of Rise ap Morys ap Morgan, felon, properties in East Pembroke, once lands of Jasper Tudor, Duke of Bedford, lands in Carmarthen which were part of the possessions of Rice Griffith, attainted, and Tir Bache, a fulling mill in Llanfihangel-ar-arth.

Title deeds comprising a mortgage by Maurice ap David ap Jenkin to Richard Pryse of Gogerddan, of a messuage and garden in Heol y Bont, Llanbadarn Fawr, 1588; and a gift by David ap Rees, son and heir of Rees David, otherwise Gove, to Richard Pryse, of a house and garden called Tuy Rees y Gove, bordered by Heol Dan y Fonwent on the north, with bond, 1608.

A mortgage by Ievan Moris ap Harry to Gruffith John ap Harry of a piece of land with a house erected there called Llain a Thuy Ievan Moris ap Harry yn Arglwyddiaeth Generglyn, in the township of Cynnull Mawr, 1609, followed by an assignment to Richard Pryse of Gogerddan, 1610.

They include a copy court roll, recording the surrender by Richard ap D'd ap Rydderch, and a subsequent gift to to John Pryse of Gogerddan, 1555-1556; deeds of sale to John Pryse by Edward Griffithe, 1563, and Griffith ap John ap Ieuan ap Ieuan, weaver, 1582; a deed for the sale of Tithyn Heol Yvron by Rees ap Jenkin ap Ll'en to Richard Pryse, 1584; and a lease by John Williams of Llangathen, Carmarthenshire, and Jane his wife, and Anne vch John, to Reynalt Morris of Llanbadarn Fawr, 1613.

Boundary clauses mention the gate of the Borth, and the highway from Borth to the parish church of Llanfihangel Genau’r-glyn. An assignment by Richard Pryse of Gogerddan to his son John Pryse of a lease originally granted to him by Sir Henry Johnes of Abermarlais in 1585, of Parson’s Mill in the parish of Llanbadarn Fawr and a moiety of the tithe of fish or herring, together with the rectory and tithes of Llanfihangel Genau’r-glyn and the chapel of Llangynfelyn, 1602; and a bargain and sale by representatives of the Crown to Sir Richard Pryse, of Parson’s Mill, part of the dissolved monastery of Vale Royal, 1613/14.

Title deeds for parcels of arable land in the township of Main, mostly lying in the larger fields called Maes y Bont extending to the river Vyrnwy, Maes Y Tir Newydd, Maes Y Llanerch, Gro Meredith Lloyd and The Long Leasow, 1550-1617. Other places include Kelly Eirighe, Gilvach, Y Weirglodd Lybe, Yr Erow Goch, Y Werne Goed, Lletty Inyon, Y Gwerne Goide, Pwll Madok and a parcel of garden or hemp yard. One deed describes the moiety of a mansion house next to the church of Meifod and the moiety of a barn and kilnhouse next to the highway, together with parcels of land, mortgaged by Richard Vaughan of Trefedryd, to Owen Lloid of Main, 1602.
