Ceulan a Maes-mawr (Keven Eyrglodd, Keven Kynvryn, Blaen y Klettwr and Moel y Llyn)

Title deeds relating to Keven Eyrglodd, Keven Kynvryn, Blaen y Klettwr and Moel y Llyn in the township of Ceulan a Maes-mawr and parish of Llanfihangel Genau’r-glyn, 1573-1607. A quitclaim and bond indicate that parts of the properties were conveyed by Ieuan ap Lle'nn ap Jenkin to Helen and Mawd, daughters of Morgan ap Lle'nn ap Jenkin deceased, and their husbands, 1573. There is a subsequent bond by Mores ap Gruff' ap Rees, husband of Mawd vch Morgan, assuring a third part of the properties to Richard Pryse of Gogerddan, 1585; deeds for the sale of further parts of Keven Kynvryn to Jenkin D'd ap Gruffith, 1586, followed by his sale to Richard Pryse, 1592; a lease of Tythen Keven Kynfryn by Rees ap Owen and Ellen vch Ieuan Lloyd to the latter’s son, John David ap Ieuan ap Harry, 1607; and a memorandum of an agreement by David Morgan of Glanvread for the lease of Eurglawdd, 1782.

An inventory of costumes at Wynnstay theatre.

A fragment of an inventory of costumes in the wardrobe of the theatre at Wynnstay, about 1784. Loose in the volume are the following sheets: a Wynnstay theatre bill for 4 January 1776, a song for the birthday of Sir Watkin Williams Wynn, bart, 19 April 1770, with a song to be sung at the cask, and a manuscript copy of the epilogue of Robert Vaughan, esq., upon his quitting the stage at Wynnstay.

Brut y Tywyssogion

The first of two volumes (see also NLW MS 1975B) containing an account, in the autograph of Evan Evans (Ieuan Fardd), of volumes I-VII of the Sebright Manuscripts ('being Edward Lhuyd's MSS' (p. 17)), with some extracts (pp. 17-79); and the beginning of a transcript of Brut y Tywysogion from the Red Book of Hergest (pp. 81-278); etc.

Nine letters, 1782-1784, from [the Rev.] E[dward] Owen of Warrington, schoolmaster and translator, to John Blackburne, Chester, mainly concerning points of difficulty in translating Classical Latin authors.
Owen comments on the works of Livy (ff. 1, 3 recto-verso, 5 recto-verso, 7 recto-verso), Horace (ff. 9-10, 12) and Catullus (ff. 12-13, 14-15). He also discusses a variety of subjects including Roman land measurement (f. 1 recto-verso), Roman coins (ff. 1 verso, 3 verso-4), Roman numerals (f. 16) and the arrangement of rowers in Roman ships (ff. 16 verso-17). Although apparently living in Chester at this time, John Blackburne's family owned Orford Hall, near Warrington, and he was elected MP for Lancashire in 1784.

Letters to John Lewes and Edward Loveden Loveden

Correspondence mainly between John Lewes of Carmarthen, Edward Loveden Loveden of Buscot Park and John Adams of Peterwell, concerning Loveden’s purchase of part of the Peterwell estate, 1779-1784. The file also contains Evan Jenkins’ ‘account of the several lordships purchased of Mr Adams’, affidavits of John Hughes of Nantgwillan and Thomas Edwardes of Lampeter, and a valuation of the wood at Peterwell and Millfield. Other correpondents are J. Woolstenhulme, Thomas Williams of Lampeter, David Williams of Lampeter, Elizabeth Adams, Thomas and James Graham of Lincolns Inn, Anne Evans of Lowmead, Jacob Riddle of St Philip Leadhouse, John Hughes of Llwyn glas and ?James Hughes. Additional subjects include the election of a mayor at Aberystwyth, 1780 -1781; an assault on Jack Price by Thomas Williams, 1781; a lawsuit about turbary rights to be tried at Hereford, the shipping of lead ore, the Pembrokeshire collieries and the dispute with Lord Milford, 1781; the corn harvest at Gogerddan; the audit of crown rents by Thomas Johnes and the implications for Edward Loveden Loveden, 1781; the activities of Miss Ball; estate matters concerning Trevane, Castell Nadolig and Nantbrenny 1781; and presentation to the eclesiastical living at Llanedi, 1784.

Peterwell letters

Correspondence mainly between John Lewes of Carmarthen, Edward Loveden Loveden of Buscot Park and John Adams of Peterwell, 1779-1784. They deal primarliy with negotiations for the sale and conveyance of Kevenymaes and the lordship of Iscoed Gwynionydd to Edward Loveden Loveden, discussing the mortgages and other debts of John Adams, the pursuit by his creditors, the necessity of confirming the title and of obtaining a reliable valuation, the detention of the Lampeter Corporation books as security for an advance loan, and the proposal by John Adams to deposit the silver plate with Loveden’s bankers in London, the attempts to prevent appropriation of the household goods by John Adams and his wife, and the sale of the remainder by auction, 1781. Several letters mention the Cardigan borough election of 1780, for which John Adams was a candidate. Other topics include general county affairs, and the management of the Abernantbychan and Gogerddan estates. The letters also give an insight into the personal relations of John Lewes with his friends and professional adversaries.

Mining letters

Letters to Robert Morris of Swansea, Lewis Pryse of Woodstock, John Pughe Pryse, and Edward Loveden Loveden of Buscot Park, 1754-1784. The correspondents are David Morgan of Tal-y-bont and his son, Thomas, about the shipping of ores from the Gogerddan mines, together with a loading ticket, 1754-1755, W. Redknap of the Mine Office, London, listing the directors, 1757-1758, Henry Bowdler of Shrewsbury, 1768, and John Lewes of Carmarthen, 1784. For main content see series description. The mines referred to here are Llanerchclwydau, Cwmsymlog, Goginan, Darren, Grogwynion, etc., and Picton Moor colliery in Pembrokeshire. Several letters mention Chauncy Townsend, and the letter of John Lewes also discusses the Cardiganshire election, 1784.

Title deeds relating to Tythin Llwyn Gronow in the parish of Llanbadarn Fawr, comprising deeds of sale by Thomas Griffith of Pempompren and his mortgagees to Enoch Watkin of Bryn Gwyn in the parish of Llanfihangel Genau’r-glyn, 1784, with schedule of deeds, 1724-1783, annexed; and a deed of sale by Enoch Watkin to Margaret Pryse of Woodstock, 1784.

A Welsh grammar

A manuscript in the hand of Evan Evans (Ieuan Fardd) containing a Welsh Grammar, consisting of 'Pymp Llyfr Cerddwriaeth' (pp. 1-101) and 'Trioedd Cerdd' (pp. 102-115).
At the end of the volume is a note by Evan Evans stating 'Y Gramadeg uchod a fenthygiwyd gennyfi Evan Evans offeiriad y gan y Parchedig Mr. Robert Nannau Periglor Llan Fwrog, a yscrifenwyd gan Robert Fychan or Hengwrt ag a ddatscrifennwyd ... yn 1784'.

Wynn family papers, Vol. 4.

Correspondence and accounts, 1781-1784, of Sir Watkin Williams Wynn, Francis Chambre, Jona: Barff, John Madocks and others, relating mainly to estate affairs. These are references to theatrical performances at Wynnstay, Dec. 1783, and an account of a fire at Llanforda (p. 493).
